Give some good ol fashioned advice for a newbie running their first 5K...

ex. If you're planning on bowling immediately after the 5K, might we suggest you don't carry your bowling bowl while you run the race?

Double lace your shoes, just don't double lace them to each other.

Or the ball, either.

Heck, don't wear any shirt during the race. Fabric on the upper half of your body can only slow you down.

When someone shouts "Stop, Forrest, stop!" stop running and turn around.

You're going to need a lot of carbohydrates to fuel you during the race.

That's why Little Chocolate Donuts have been on my training table ever since I was a kid.

Wine is now good for you again. Forget the water at the aid stations and ask for a wine spritzer instead!

A huge dinner of ribs, mashed potatoes, beans, broccoli, and coke is an excellent way to carbo load mere hours before a race!

Feel Free to avoid all stretching and warming up. It's only a 5K, and will be over soon. Wink

Also, run directly to the beer stand afterwards. Nothing is a better recovery drink than ice cold beer. Wink

You want to look as spiffy as possible, buy all new gear the day before the race. Be sure your shoes and socks are especially new~you wouldn't want to make a bad impression at your first 5k!

In the event you have feelings of anxiety on race day, be sure to wear loose fitting shorts. When the gun goes off, simply crap in your pants right on the spot. That should help reduce your nerves and may prevent you from getting side stitches or cramps later in the race.

I always find an extra large glass of milk right before the race is a good thing!
