Pin your number to your clothing, not yourself.

eat 4 scrambled eggs before you leave the house with a chaser of ice cold red Gatorade - 12 ounces.
then, newbies, when the gun goes off, run as fast as you can. faster than you ever have before. run till you puke and then run some more and it will be over. don't forget to have fun!!!!!

Be sure to line up right at the front, too. All the other runners will really appreciate your eagerness!

If you run 15-20 minute miles, it's best to start up front.
Seriously!

After you cross the finish line the first time be sure to turn around and yell at everyone behind you "I beat you. I beat you...HAHAHAHA." Runners love that competitive spirit.

Racing can be a contact sport. A friendly elbow or hockey-style check is a great way to fit in. When passing in a race, be sure to make a mock car sound/doppler effect as you go by someone "wwweee-uuuuuuoo". Also, on an out and back course, it's always appreciated to grab an extra cup or two of gatorade to toss in the face of runners coming the opposite direction...ahh, what a relief. Be sure to spit lots. It shows you're serious about racing. Remember your cell phone so you can make some calls during the race. And always park your car on the street near the finish...runners are super friendly and have no qualms about weaving through cars as you drive away. And always, have FuN.

Seeing as I'm the deucemaster...... don't risk taking a dump in the portajohns or public restrooms right before the race no matter how badly last nights greasy pizza and couple of beers are brewing up... no sense risking catching something - you'll be able to hold it in once the race starts.

Got a 5K the day after a big party you just don't want to miss? GO ahead and drink all you want, but instead of your regular poison try Gatorade and vodka. That way, you'll replenish as you dehydrate yourself. Be sure to stop at Chez Whitey on the way home and pick up a sack of sliders. You're gonna need all that energy!!!

And after the race be sure to load up on any snacks. Get enough to take home and last a week. Don't worry about if there is enough left for those still on the course, it will teach them they need to run faster.

I just realized what's truly sad about this...in a effort to help out and keep my subscription current, someone else renewed it for me as I was about to let it lapse. Oh , well, good intentions....
Oh, make sure you get to the very beginning of the pack at the start. That will increase your chance of winning.

Stop immediately once you've crossed the finish line without looking behind youself.
