Is it a Road or Track 5km. (there's a big difference) Tim ?

I'll go for 17min.30sec. Road. -- 18min.30sec. Track

I'll admit ignorance to track racing. I thought track times were usually faster than road.

Depends on the course really. Track is usually flatter, but at the same time it is softer and usually has more turns than a road race. That and you just lose your iron will after 20 laps of the same scenery. dunno

Purple and MEC, even IAAF certified road races can have advantages such as a tail wind, a drop in elevation from start to finish. Were as racing on a track any wind advantage is negated. Also tracks are certified 400metres or 440yards.

This is another reason that we shouldn't take ourselves too seriously when comparing personal records on the road

That's probably true enough. All of my fastest race times have come off of the same course. It's flat, close to the house and they run it twice a year.

road and it's flat and fast...

I always thought track races were faster than road since the latter varies alot..but then if it's outdoor track, then there's always a chance of headwinds influencing time...if it's indoor, then the weather's out of the equation.

For the person who predicted 18:30, you are the winnah! thumbs up

I did an 18:22, a craptacular performance, Mad although the fun postrace BBQ party offset my disappointment a bit. I won a draw prize though (4 coupons for free pizza and a coffee mug).
I still haven't figured out what happened yesterday...things were going well for me in the 1st km, mostly b/c it was a downhill start but then I slowed down quite a bit after. I could blame it on the fact that I trained too hard prior to the 5k...

But then and again it's only a tune-up...we'll see what happens with the 10k coming up in 2 weeks.

Rolling Rock wins with an 18:08. Phar said 18:30 on a track, but he went over anyway. If you go over, you lose!
