I know, I know, what a dorky, urban university guy solution
Still, may I suggest this one as a possible starting point. I've not read it, I just remembered the title as I was thinking of this. Other choices are very welcome.

Me, too. The problem might be deciding which book to read. I mean if we pick an Coulter book one time, a Franken book the next I am not sure how well our discussion would go.
What we need is someone to step up and sort of "moderate" our on topic book club. Hmmmm....maybe someone who writes pretty good reviews already, is well read, and can find books and take suggestions? Now, who might we know like that?
I'll give you one hint....it isn't me.
Besides, y'all don't want to read my Sgt. Rock comics anyway, you Philistines Now I have to go give myself an off topic/sarcasam warning

Count me in. If we don't keep the timetables too tight, even more busy riff-raffers can squeeze in a novel on the side. I know if I simply carry a book in my duffle bag, inevitably I end up waiting somewhere, sometime and have a chance to scrap out some chapters.
What do you think, book of the month? Start a thread on something like the 25th of each month so everyone has a chance to read it?

I can see 4-6 weeks to read, which can of course be moved around depending on what book is chosen (I would recommend against choosing a 900 page tome).
And I see where this is heading, and I'm okay with that.

Take a look at the book I originally suggested, as much for its title as its contents.
As I said, I've not read it. Just sounded 'On-Topic' as it were.

I think these types of titles might work better than Coulter, Hannity, Moore, et al right now, even if we alternated. Still a bit too raw right now for a lot of us.

Mmm hmmm.
Back on topic, I'll think about some stuff regarding this book club over the weekend. Not only could we do political non-fiction, but also political themed fiction. The Ugly American is one that comes to mind.

I'll recommend Character: Profiles In Presidential Courage by Chris Wallace
Overview: (Quoting verbatim)
Throughout America's past, Presidents have faced difficult choices -- decisions that have had grave polictical and personal consequences. Will leadership prevail? Or will the office cede power to popular opinion? At these critical times, many of our Presidents have chosen a path of genuine courage. They stood up for what they believed (emphasis mine) was right for the country, showing tremondous character which made them leaders of men.
Presidents and Events Profiled:
- George Washington and the Whiskey Rebellion
- Abraham Lincoln and the Emancipation Proclamation
- Grover Cleveland and the Pullman Strike
- Andrew Jackson and the Second National Bank
- Andrew Johnson and his Secretary of War
- Lyndon Johnson, The Vietnam War and the Great Society
- Theodore Roosevelt and the Russ-Japanese Peace Plan
- Woodrow Wilson and the League of Nations
- Ronald Reagan and the Soviet Union
- Thomas Jefferson and the Embargo Acts
- Franklin Roosevelt and the Lend-Lease Act
- Harry Truman and the Berlin Airlift
- John Kennedy and the Bay of Pigs
- George W. Bush and the Iraq War
I am about half way through it. Getting ready to start with WW and the League of Nations. Very impressed so far.
Cappy
Its an excellent read so far, I highly recommend

I am not sure I could read with honesty. I have a tough time getting through a book that I disagree with. I could not even open a Franken book.
I know people want to love and understand each other but I cannot read something I know I cannot ever ever grasp.
