Do you answer when it beeps? Do you even have it? Do you think its one of the more inconsiderate inventions of the 80s? Right now I'm a little chapped about my own position on it. Just curious about others' views.

we don't have it. But when I got caller ID i found that since I have DirectTV the number now appears on my TV screen so I don't have to go jumping for the phone to see if I want to ignore it.

I use it. If someone comes up to you while you are talking with someone else, do you refuse to acknowledge them? What's rude about addressing those that are trying to contact you? That said, it can get out of hand and I've seen it used poorly.

I hate being on hold, and nothing worse than your friends putting you on hold. I hate the whole "Oh hang on, someone I want to talk to more than you is calling in" and the "Hey! I'd love to talk to you but I will have to call you back since I was already talking to someone else" "Okay, what were you saying before I interrupted?" When I do use it (occasions when I'm waiting on a call, or its someone I know its important) I disconnect with the person I'm talking with first. But, voicemail is a lovely invention. Leave what you have to say, I'll call you back at my convenience.

i have it but never answer it. then it keeps bleeeping in my ear
i think it's ignorant, either way-- to answer it or to be hung out there while someone else does.

Heck I don't answer the phone as it is. Let alone having to answer the phone when I'm on the phone.

I have it - only because my wife wanted it. I hate it & refuse to use it. I ignore the beep - if it was important, they'll call back.

Mixed feelings about it here. I think it's rude to interrupt someone and say you have to take another call. However, being a business owner and number 1 contact person at the gym, I need to be available 24/7 pretty much. The only time I really use it is when it is a call from the gym and I'm not there.

I do not own call waiting. I think it is rude. My MIL uses it too much.
I will be ordering it soon. I have a son who is talking to gurls. And I have a husband who gets phone calls 24-7 for accident reports, d.u.i.s, etc.

Same here. No call waiting, no caller ID, hell I'd have no phone if I could get away with it.

I have it, but rarely use it.
Just when it's my Mom or something, or am expecting a call.
Other than that, I just call the person back.
