RR Men: Were you "old fashioned" and ask for permission to take your wife's hand in marriage?
If you're not currently married, would you do so?
RR Women: Was your husband "old fashioned" and ask your father for permission to marry him?
If you're currently single, would you like for your future mate to do so?
This post is started in honor of Phar Lap, who's daughter will be getting married in 3 months.

I asked my wife first. I wasn't marrying her dad, so I didn't ask his permission

No because I hadn't even met my future in-laws until after we were engaged. I think I met them right before the wedding ceremony.

Same here... but I also knew that they wouldn't object.

since my wife's father is deceased, I did not ask him. Had he been alive, I'm not sure...
Her sister's husband asked her Grandfather for his blessing.
I did not.
To me, it's kinda insulting to women. They have to have permission to get married? That's dumb. That's just me, though.
Good question.

My hubby did not ask my dad, he knew I didn't want him to. My reason was more that I wanted my parents to be surprised and not know in advance that we'd be getting engaged.

My husband insisted on asking my Dad. I thought it was kinda silly but whatever. I think dad was a little surprised, but it didn't stop him from making a hilarous comment. I'd tell you what it is but I don't want to offend anyone.

Now that I've thought about it a little bit more...My f-i-l isn't really my wife's dad, it's her step-father. Her bio dad hasn't talked to her since she was about 25 or so and her step-dad didn't get to be her step-dad until after she was an aduly anyway.

The timing was such that the way of announcing to the in-laws that we were engaged was by asking if I could wed their daughter.

I asked.....
And whoever the punk is she marries BETTER ask me. NOT a good way to start out with the old man.
And I will guarantee you that before my daughter will respond she'll ask..."Uhh...you did ask my dad, right?"

no, he asked me first. i had to break the news to them. they didn't seem all that thrilled until they met him.
i would really like it if someday, when i home-bound and weaving baskets while staring at a wall, my daughter's fiance would ask mr. rock first (he'll be sitting next to me at the home). that would be so cool.

I didn't really ask as much as I advised him I was going to do it. I talked to him ahead of time, but it wasn't a surprise, anyway.

The X...I asked her dad, and my commanding officer (ya had to get approval in those day's).
Now...I would just ask MW...and I would also get her sons approval..
And before you ask...NO we are NOT at that juncture...at this time...thankyouverymuch....
