So here's a question for PH; if the woman of your dreams hadn't already had children, would you have had children?

We both just felt the time was right. Nothing in particular jumped out at us as saying you are ready to do this. Granted Boilerette Jr. was a little of a surprise but we have handled it and love both of them.

The first was a surprise.... I was not ready.... The second, I was ready for and I was not surprised. He.... was surprised.... and not overly happy.

But, I adjusted and dothe best I can.... sometimes it's hard to be the grownup.... but I do it anyway.

My wife and I both always wanted kids. When we got married we hoped to start having kids after about 4 years and fortunately for us we were able to start right on schedule.

Some of our closest friends have had kids in the past year or two and that has helped us to mentally prepare for the lifestyle change. But its true that nothing can really make you ready. I can honestly say that so far the blessings have outweighed the sacrifices by at least 100 to 1.

But what do I know, I'm only a 3 week old dad. dunno

Edited to add that if I did have kids, I'd have started early. I'm really looking forward to being <40 when my oldest goes to college.

we were married 6 years and i was 29 before we decided to start a family. it took two months and i was pregnant. my son had health issues by age 2 and we decided that was it. by the time he was 4, we changed our minds about another child and it happened after one try.

both were planned and we were extremely lucky in our scheduling i guess. no problem there, that's for sure.

I have always wanted children but I had wanted to have them after being married for about 3-5 years. I got pregnant with my first on the second day of my honeymoon. I was pretty shocked when I found out I was pregnant. It took me about a week to adjust to it. There were so many things happening so quickly in my life at that time. After a year of complications from my first pregnancy we weren't sure we wanted a second child (third child for my DH). We went back and forth all the time. I remember crying when I gave away some of my sons baby stuff. It seemed so final.

Years later (six to be exact) we both came to the conclusion that it was a "now or never" situation (since I'll be 40 in December) and I truly wanted my son to grow up with another sibling. At first I was sort of doing it for him but later I realized that I really did still want another child.

So...during a boring Super Bowl....

Oh, wait....did I just say that outloud??? Wink

We've been planning for a bigger family but we're not having any luck in that department.I do have a wonderful step-daughter.She was expected since of course I new that the guy I was dating had a kid. Unexpected that I'd actually fall for, and marry some guy with a kid.

We had our daughter after being married for nearly 11 years. Just wanted to do other things first.

At some point, we just felt it was the next move in our lives. "Finished school. Got a job. Travelled. Got the car and the house. Now what?"

As a guy, you don't realize how ready you are until you hit certain milestones:
    seeing that first ultrasound
    feeling that first kick
    hearing that first cry

Being a dad for 14 months now, I laugh at myself for being as scared and nervous as I was. It's been the hardest, most stressful, most rewarding and absolute best thing to happen to me and my wife.
