I guess I'm trying to say that I don't see any logical tie between a terrorist attack and the election - other than they simply want to do a terrorist attack and could say it was to get Bush out of office. But their track record shows they don't really care who is in office.

i think the argument could be made that the terrorists would like to keep Bush in office...he has been a great recruiting tool for Al Quaida...

so i think if they felt an attack would ensure the election of Bush, or vice versa that they may plan accordingly...if it is a big unknown, maybe they'd just wait unitl afterwards to make their presence felt...

not saying that is what i believe, just saying that argument could be made...if you want to close your ears to that argument that's fine...

how many of the 'insurgents' in Iraq are actually Iraqi?
the big evil empire invades a sovereign country and desposes of their leader?
rise up and go fight the big evil entity in Iraq....

...I'm saying that their propaganda machine likes having Bush in place....Kerry to them is an unknown...

I've got no closed ears to the argument. I'm just a number cruncher kinda guy. I know Cappy is too. If you have some numbers showing Al Quaida recruiting has been great, I'll listen. Whatcha got?

Your statement appears to be based more on fact. If that is your opinion perhaps you should have said that.

be real...do you think the US Census Bureau keeps demographic information on terrorists?

if you don't like the argument fine...argue against the merits of the logic...but don't dismiss it because 'numbers' aren't available....

You guys are helping demonstrate the point I was trying to make. It doesn't matter who is President, or what the make up of Congress is, or whether or not Florida figures out how to vote - terrorists can always make up some lame reason as to why it is they do what they do.

And people are foolish to believe that we could do anything to change their minds.

No hard numbers but with a little googling, I was able to find some basis for mega's opinion

<snip>Until American-backed forces toppled the government in Afghanistan, a few months after the September 11th attacks, the country’s Islamist regime, the Taliban, had played host to al-Qaeda and its terrorist training camps. The regime change in Afghanistan, and the capture or killing of around half of al-Qaeda’s 30 most senior figures, severely constrained the group’s operationsHowever, the IISS’s (Institute for Strategic Studies) annual Strategic Survey reckons that al-Qaeda still has more than 18,000 “graduates” of the terror camps it can call on—and its recruitment has accelerated as a result of the invasion of Iraq</snip>

I agree with Runner X. I am of the opinion that the terrorist could care less who is in the oval office.

Oh no, I'll stick with the argument. It's just that an argument on "recruitment" would be a whole lot more logical to talk about if we had some numbers to base it on. Otherwise it becomes one more of those "I believe" kind of discussions where we sit and spin. But I'll play along this time.

My logic tells me that when the planet's only super power finally took it's head out of the sand and began "the war on terrorism" this would not greatly increase Al Quaida recruitment. But in fact, with the military actions during the Bush administration in Afghanistan, it seems logical to me that a potential terrorist would be less likely to join.

And based on voter turnout, neither would the average American.
