The viola takes longer to burn. |
Viola here.
My viola and I will be joining RR in the 'pit' as I don't march. | Our son played viola all four years of high school. The school made those periodic recordings for the experience and to raise money - on one of them he and a couple other violists have their picture - with the violas covering their faces - on the CD sleeve. |
Thats pretty good about the photo! If I learned nothing else through my life in orchestra its that it is very important for violists to have a strong sense of self-deprecating humor to beat anyone to the punch, as any appearance of pride/ego will be chiseled away at by ALL in the symphony, including the director with the thousands (conservative estimate) of viola jokes that are out there. I miss it. There was a point in my life I was probably playing my viola more hours than I was sleeping....

Piano. Since that was hard to manage in a marching situation, I played the Base Drum in the ROTC Band and the School Pep Band.
