for Sex Ed.
Would you give your consent?
Should there be a need for consent?
Who cares you teach your own kid the facts anyway?
What do you think?

I'd give consent. They're going to find out sooner or later anyway...

1) Depends on your kid's age. Which can be confused with your kid's maturity. Would still do it (explain it to him) with LC. By explanations - sock puppets optional.
2) If a school offers it, there should be parental consent. No two ways about it.
3) Better from you than from the streets. And in some cases, from the classroom. (if I got the question right)

I would defer to the parents right to consent. I mean, they have the FINAL responsiblity for raising the children.

lalalalalalala I can't hear you lalalalalalala
but seriously, I would want to see the curriculum before I gave consent.
And yes, in matters of sex education, there is NO WAY a school should not consult the parents first.

Yes, I'd give consent.
This being after I talked to my children first.

My parents had to give consent for me.
Of course, I'm still not sure I got it right.
But I don't see the issue with consent....I only see the issue with trying to teach one stance over another...

yes, i've given my consent for sex ed, and yes they should ask. i think it serves as a good starting point for conversation at home. i'm positive alot of kids would never get "the talk" if not for the school's intervention. the "talk" at school started the discussion at home, it was an open door for me really.
we are asked "consent" on just about anything that goes on in the school anymore. drug awareness programs, standardized testing, school parties...we are given the option to hold the kid out of it all if we find the content "objectionable or offensive".
standardized testing??? content objectionable?? i was given a sample test and i could not, for the life of me or my kid, find one thing that may have been offensive or objectionable. i think they are in the overkill "consent" mode right now.

My parents were never asked consent to teach me.
I even learned the proper way to put a condom on a banana. (Whatever that was good for)
My parents just assumed because I was the youngest I'd already heard. Maybe it was because they assumed if they didn't tell me, I wouldn't know how. Their only instruction was: NEVER!!!
Not a good assumption....
Like RR says, it's an excellent springboard for home discussions. I can't believe some of the questions I've already gotten. "ummm, son, don't you want to ask your DAD that question???"
