Buy. Used. Cheap. Previously owned by little old ladies who only drove on nice days. If you're not in a hurry you can find some incredible deals.

Buy. New. Foreign, built domestically. Run 'em into the ground.

Buy. Have bought new but don't see the point in ever doing so again. Used is the way for me, since there are now pretty lengthy warranties. Run them into the ground.
The reasons against a lease: It's good to eventually pay something off and not have a car payment. Also, I don't want to get into the mentality that a car is only good for 3-5 years.

Buy. I love driving a paid-for car. I don't know the benefits of a lease but I do know several people who had big issues when they leased.
Suze Orman's take on car leases for what that's worth.

Go Ms. Orman. Leasing is just plain stupid. The mileage restrictions and penalties for early lease termination alone make it a bad financial choice.

104,000 miles and I still love it, although if I could have one with fewer miles on it, I'd love that too. I doubt I'll ever buy a "new" new car.
Damn, when we left Charlotte on 9/2 I only had 96k on it. I haven't put so many miles on a car in such a small amount of time since I was a working mom.

MTC: If leasing wasn't to the advantage of the car manufacturer and/or the finance company, you can rest assured leasing wouldn't be pushed nearly as much as it is.
