Are you someone who follows the goings-on in the political arena pretty closely, whether it be local or national?

While I certainly have opinions on some issues, I just can't get into following politics. I find it dreadfully boring.

I know this isn't in "On-Topic" but it'd be nice if this didn't turn into a right vs left thread...I'm just curious how closely you all keep tabs...

Darn that George Bush!

It's like I want to follow politics, but I'm just not interested enough overall when I try to follow some of the goings on. I guess we won't see Congressman Pug or Senator Pug anytime soon.

Yes, I follow politics. But I didn't always. I used to find it dreadfully boring, just like you. I'm not exactly sure what changed it, but certainly living with someone who's really into it helped. Also, at the time, we were hanging out with a lot of political scientists, and for the first time in my life, I was living in a place where I was oftentimes an outsider. Also, I saw a gubernatorial race up close, when both players were really interesting to watch, and I was living in a place that was a state capital. So I guess that's how it came to be. Now that I'm older, I see that politics plays a prominent role in how my city works or doesn't, on how often my trash gets picked up, how soon a pothole gets fixed, etc. It impacts me closely so I feel it's in my best interest to be on top of it. Finally, I find, the more I pay attention and get familiar with names and issues, the less overwhelming and boring it becomes.

I keep my eyes and ears open to news/info about issues that effect me or that I have particular interest. This leads my interest into election politics. For example, I follow the votes/news/idiot soundbites of our state's junior senator because I will be working to help the effort to defeat him in his reelection effort.

I get the headlines everyday...anything that interests me, I might research a little further. If I'm home and the TV's on I watch the Sunday morning shows...I'm probably not the most edumacated on politics but I know a little.

Politics on the grand scheme seems a little like keeping up with the drama of the popular crowd in high school. They are the most popular for unexplained reasons, usually the seem to be the richest, but not necessarily the smartest, and yet the rest of the school seems to want to emulate them and votes for them for student body president and prom queen, even if on the grand scheme they may not be the #1 best choice. Politics seems like that to me, but with politics unlike high school cliques, I think we need to pay attention and stay plugged in to keep them in check, make sure the factors that need to be considered are and that what is being handled doesn't benefit only those in the popular clique. Or, thats how my warped mind works.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Political Science, and frankly, I have a hard time working up an interest in political goings on. I used to be really interested in that stuff, but now - meh.

yes. I am well educated on the issues and make informed choices. I have great faith in my vote and believe it makes a difference. I am a 10th generation American continuing a proud tradition of voting and serving this country. My forefathers sacrificed a great deal for this country to be where it is to them. It is my solemn and sacred duty to respect and honor their sacrifices.
