Allow me a moment to reflect on general personality traits of kids who live for Playstation.

They blur the line between reality and fantasy pretty much constantly. Not just in the way all kids do, but to the point that I find alarming.

They don't feel the need to participate in any sort of acitivity because they can sit in front of the TV and be cool/athletic/popular with less effort than it takes in real life.

They are dangerously sedentary.

They have poor social skills.

I am not a big fan of Playstation. Can you tell?

We inherited an old playstation from BIL. It lasted a few months until it busted. Really, a good lesson to see before/during/after behavior. Yes, I'm with ya all the way Shanners. Life is better without 'em.

Is that a dig?
I think of the time I spend on the computer as 'sanity management'. You guys are the closest thing I get to an adult voice all day.

what you're describing Shannon sounds almost like Austism and I've seen similar in my nephew. I sound like my mother did when we wanted an Atari (and didn't get one) I do think it can be harmful.

Video games help foster an apathetic, awkward, dorkiness in children.

That is a pretty broad statement Shannon. Parents that allow the PS (or tv for that matter) to become a babysitter risk that happening. My kids both have or had Playstations and they never once confused the line between reality and fantasy because of it. Neither is sedentary either. And their social skills are about as good as any other young males - they like to beat the crap out of each other, belch loudly and eat like pigs.

It ain't the game that is causing the lifestyle, it's the stuporvision or lack of it that allows it to happen.

I dunno. I think every generation is desperately seeking an explanation for the apparent mindless idleness of the next.

my son already "has" those tendencies. So it's kind of good when he meets a kid that does have a playstation as a babysitter. He can actually "make a friend". so for me playstation is a good thing.

I.E. it's pretty normal for most kids to be apathetic, awkward and dorky at some time. It's part of growing up.

Just as a point of clarity - I meant the above comment affectionately! Mr. Green

But I do think Playstation sucks, Xbox has a much better system...

i will say that the playstation Xbox generation is far more anti-social than we were in the 70s..... to them, hooking up on Xbox live is the equivalent of a social gathering, can you imagine????? there isn't as much face-to-face conversation anymore....i mean they are talking with friends online, how pathetic is that? they have little chance of sharpening their social interaction skills when they are at a keyboard all day; it's frightening.

stuporvision.... teehee
