I don't think I would pay for plastic surgery for my daughter (unless it's corrective after an accident)

It depends what it is. My boys did not inherit my nose, but if they had and wanted rhinoplasty, I'd pay for it. I always did and once I could afford it, I became scared. young adults aren't scared.

Some things I would consider. Like a nose job if they really needed one and it would make them feel better about themselves, or some other thing that was really embarassing. I would definitely not even think about letting them do something like a boob job. I think that teens are too young for something like that in the sense that they could still be developing and that it's more "cosmetic" than something like having some horrible big nose (or some scar or something that could be corrected) that they get made fun of all the time and to me would be more acceptable to change. (I don't know that I'm explaining this well, but hopefully you get what I'm trying to say).

When I was in high school 3 of my friends had nose jobs and one had her ears "done" (whatever they do to make them not stick out).

I don't know if I could let my kids do it. Even at the time I remember thinking none of my friends needed their procedures. Seems pretty risky for what would amount to a self esteem issue. If they aren't teasing you for your ears or nose or whatever, it was my experience in school that kids will find something else to tease you for. I think kids need to find their self-confidence/worth in other things besides their image and classmates' approval. But that is just me.

I agree. I think when I think I would even consider it, it would have to be a MAJOR obvious need and not even just a "oh, my nose is big" and it's really not a big deal, even if they think it is.

no, i wouldn't let my kids have plastic surgery. the ear issue is kinda different though. i knew a child once that had terrible ears -- he was called monkey from the first of school thru high school. i'm positive it had a lifelong effect on this kids' psyche. in his case, and others like him, i probably would allow a corrective procedure. kids can be too cruel and the damage can be too long lasting.

now, if my daughter ever comes to me asking for new hooters for graduation -- that'd be a big, um, let me see: NO.

GMA aired a story this spring that implants are now the most popular graduation gift for high school kids, altho i see no mention of that in the article here.

I doubt that. What self-respecting guy would want his own boobies for graduation?

believe it or not, they compared the implant numbers to the car numbers, and the implants were more popular. more girls getting more boobs than boys and girls together getting cars....

mine will get neither. cuz i'm a stick in the mud. Mad

No way, no how. (with the reconstruction-after-accident exception, of course)

Duct tape would have saved her some money.
