Other than it being really expensive to go there, which I already have figured out, what's the school like? Any personal experience? What's the area like to live in?

What about Pitt or Duquesne? Vibes on those? If you had your choice of any of the three, finances and acceptance notwithstanding, which one would you pick and why?

Anyone else with knowledge of any of these, please feel free to chime in too.....

I know nothing about any of these schools, but I would make fun of you if you attended anywhere named Mellon.

Carnegie Mellon is much more prestigious. Pseudo ivy league of sorts. My bro went there in the 70's. Known for not only being strong with tech programs but also the arts. I know of another RR who has more direct experienct with CMU.

I went to Pitt. Pitt is It. Pitt is Sh!t as the those from College Park liked to say. I loved going to a city-school and not one on a traditional rural campus.

Duquesne... hmm. I don't know a lot other than it's a Catholic school. It's in downtown.

on all counts. CMU is prestigious and impressive. Pitt is my Alma Mater, it has a good reputation, I enjoyed it there.

Duquesne, has a reputation for being tough, but not nearly as impressive as CMU. I took a few classes at Duquesne. They were fine.

No doubt...especially if it's in lieu of moving to the Midwest

Sad, hey, I tried....my specialty is a little more "specialized" than I thought. U MN didn't even have what I wanted. If I switch to Social Psychology, which I may be able to do, I might still be able to get away with Madison, but I'm not sure they have the right concentration in that either.

AZ State is lookin' promising too, Noley, how much longer ya gonna be out there? Wink

TRUST ME, I am examining all Midwest schools closely but coming up relatively empty handed so far. The Burgh is at least a step in the right direction! I'm workin' on it.....honest! I don't want to be on the East Coast any longer than I have to! Confused

OK--I'll chime in
Yes is it VERY expensive and fairly prestigious, blah, blah, blah, flim, flam, floom....
The thing I learned about this place was you got out of it what you put into it (pretty obvious) and I made some fantastic lifelong contacts/connections.
While the liberal arts aren't as widely publicized as the Engineering/Robotics and Fine Arts, they too are very highly ranked nationally....
Question is do you actually have the financial wherewithal to spend the money to go to school here, other universities most likely have programs that will give you the same education and without the HIGH cost.
CMU's campus is on the edge of the University/Hospital district of Pittsburgh and therefore is more or less it's own campus.
The facilities are first rate, the surrounding area is fairly nice, cost of living is not very high and there is plenty to do on and off campus.

Pitt is a first class university also, has excellent programs is much more inexpensive, but the campus is interspersed with hospitals and a business district of sorts. (2) very busy thoroughfares run thru the campus with makes is very "busy"....not the collegial experience of a rural campus

Duquesne goes back to the expense issue...again a very good university, rather expensive and on the bluffs just above the city.....campus is relatively isolated, but not very big

Don't laugh, it's actually on the list! CallipyG put in a BIG plug for their program. I just haven't had a chance to check it out yet.

But isn't that in Ann Arbor?
