so we have a function at hubby's hotel on the 6th. I'm not 100% sure that I'm going, but I bought a new outfit for just in case. Hit Ann Taylor and bought fabulous black acetate slacks, a sleeveless, droopy neck beaded black top (I think they call this sort of thing a shell, heck if I know the lingo), heels, a nice black velvet jacket to get me from outside to inside.
Question is: what do I do with my hair? It's long and in layers (and I went back to that deep red color), and with the right amount of hairspray, I can keep some curls. It's a nice event, so I'm wondering if I should pay someone to do my hair, maybe a quasi up-do? Or should I cut a couple inches off the length and layers and just curl and go, or ???
Wimmins, your thoughts? Mins can chime in too.
Thanks!!

If you decide to go, take it with you.
Okay, so it's quasi-dressy. Dreadlocks are out. Braided into cornrows is out. But...French braids are a nice touch and call for how much hairspray? None? Yeah, that's the ticket! The braids would work well with your outfit and the occasion.
You're welcome.

Hmm. Maybe. What about this? I never wear my hair up like this, it's so thick that it might not even work. However, my favorite stylist might be able to make it happen.

brie,
I have no suggestions.
Any way you wear it will look nice to most men.
(Women are another story however)

Something like that would be fine. It's up off the neck and almost borders on the elegant. If he/she can do it, that's the look for the gathering. You will be noticed and complimented...unless you're wearing running shoes. Then you'll be noticed but not complimented.

I'm shocked that you don't think my NB trail shoes will complete the ensemble.
Thanks for your input (and coach too!) I think that's the style.

You gotta realize asking advice from the guys here will get you a majority rule of pony-tail through the back of a baseball cap.. ooh-la-la.

Your shoes are black? "Hey, I had to wear these because it's still icy out there and I needed the traction." Otherwise, nah.
Ballcap? Indoors? What kind of person wears a hat indoors? Or, even better, while they're eating?

I like the updo idea. I got my hair professionally up-do'ed for the first time in the summer and it makes you feel like Zoolander, baby!
Then you can use the black outfit for your career as a professional eugoogolizer.

Agree with Coach on this. The way you have it now is fine (I'm guessing it's the color and length in your picture?). No changes needed.

I would go for the up-do, or, if you're feeling bold, have the front done in little twists or mini french braids (not like cornows, but loose, less uptight braids) only to the back of your head, then swoop the rest back up in a high ponytail and tease it around. You can do it yourself and save money and it looks really good.
(I've also go.t fairly long, wavy, multi-layered hair, and I've found I can get it up in a twist/braids/whatever better than a lot of hairdressers for less money just by experimenting)

you have to understand that most of the mins here love a gal with a ponytail sticking through her ballcap.
I DO have a westin cap, brand new... maybe I'll just running-gear it.

Just a tad longer, a tad darker red, but yeah, that's pretty much me today. I could just get another trim, then curl it like in the pic. Got a lot of compliments on it at the last hotel party when I went like my normal self.
decisions decisions.
