Damsel in distress!!!
So my new car requires full synthetic oil, and it also says that it should be changed every 3000 miles. I'm being told that that's a crock - synthetic should only need changed every 10000. Is this true? A full synthetic oil change every 3000 miles is going to be very very expensive...

Synthetic does last longer than the regular stuff, but I am not sure about 10k. There are variables, like temp. of region, how hard you drive...
I would think if you change the oil every 5-7k you will probably be alright.

Is it the owners manual that says every 3k for the synthetic oil? If you don't go by what the manual says you could void your warranty.
I would not let a vehicle go longer than 5k miles before a change of oil and filter whether it's synthetic or not. I change my trucks oil and filter every 3-4k miles, it's got over 100k miles and holds great oil pressure and doesn't burn it.

And more importantly, are the drink holders big enough for the largest Slurpee cup?

C'mon, show the pic, show the pic!!!
My dad's a mechanic, I just called him and he agrees with Monk and Rob. No more than 5K between changes regardless of type of oil.
Did you call the dealership service dept?

Well if genie's dad, Rob, Monk and I all think you should do it every 5K miles, then it must be true.

Si, senorita. They insist on full-synthetic, and they strongly suggest 3K between changes. It takes 6.5 quarts of oil, so you can see where that would get pricey...

Those are SO fun.
Word of advice: after extensive testing, I've concluded that the best way to be going in a Land Rover is UPRIGHT and FORWARD.

Which could be why they are saying this. Hmmm...let me see if there's a LR dealer near me that I can just call and ask as a general question. If they know I don't actually have one that they can make money off, they might give me a real answer.
Hey, also.....google LR online and see if maybe their website will say anything in the specs part?

I wasn't aware Land Rover made "cars".
You're likely pretty safe at 5K between changes. As robp said, though, check the warranty.

If you plan on keeping the Rover for a long long time and putting a ton of miles on it then do what they say. Or if you tow a heavy trailer or do a lot of city stop and go driving. If not, go with the synthetic and change at no more than 5k.
