Posted: 05/01/04 - 10:43 Post subject: Peachtree Corners Family 5K Race
First time I've run in 4 months when I abandoned running to give my knee some time to recover. First time I've run a road race since last October.
26:40 finish time/8:35 pace. (No splits available because they didn't have anyone on the course or any mile markers.)
I finished 28th overall (90 folks total) and 4th in my age group. (I do take solace in the fact that my 5K PR wouldn't have won my age group.) Overall winning time for the men was low 17's. For the wimmins, it was 19 and change.
When they said local race, they mean local race. 90 folks total for the 5K. I don't think I've run a race with these few of people ever. However, it was super cool to be able to run a race in the neighborhoods around your house. I knew where every turn/hill was going to be due to all my previous training runs. It's also nice to be able to roll out of bed 45 minutes prior to the race start and be there with time to spare.
First mile was OK. 2nd mile was tougher (calves are sore from weight training). Third mile was a bit quicker. Something about seeing that finish line in the distance. I think I could run faster if all races were straight, flat and I could see the finish line in the distance. It definitely took me a while to get warmed up.
This race will be a potential PR course for me in the future. Only one smaller moderate hill to report. (PH - If you want to trip over this way for this race in the future, you could do some real damage on this flat course.)
Good introduction back to running for moi. Time to get my aerobic conditioning back for the Peachtree Road Race on July 4th. Just over 2 months away....

HEY! An 8:35 pace is pretty cookin' for a guy that hasn't run in 4 months. I'm impressed.

That's quite a decent time for someone not running for such a long time! Plus your placing was not bad too! Congrats!
