You could have a talk with the teacher, and explain to him the consequence his decision played. His response would dictate whether to take it further. The point of having the discussion wouldn't be to change the award, it would be to inform the teacher so he might consider changing the policy. Another value of it would be to show your child that you back him on matters of importance.

I quite agree that the value of hard work isn't its external recognition, although that can go a long way toward motivating a child. How does your son feel about it?

Actually when I went to ask why the B after the first quarter, I let the teacher know Jake had set a goal for straight A's for the year. However, we were talking about the final yearly grade. A also assumed the awards were based on the final grade also. Not so apparently.

Jake is very self motivated, and usually hates to have a fuss made over his accomplishments. he will be fine. Mr. Green

I'm with you, it's the teacher's explanation that bothers me, not necessarily the grade. Unfortunetly, there may be a time when a student tries their absolute best, and still can't make that "A". That doesn't seem the case here. I admire the way your son is handling it.

You've already talked to the teacher, I think it's appropriate to talk to your son's assistant principal or principal. It may make no difference in the award, but may save some future child heartache.
