So it looks like I will be painting the new place this weekend. I would like to match the color that is already there but I really don't have a good way to get a color sample. The previous owners didn't leave any paint behind. Does anyone have a good idea on how to get a sample to have matched? Right now I am thinking I will chip a sample off of a closet wall.

That would work or maybe you could take a picture and try to match it from that.

1) Can you get a few color swatches from the paint store and hold them to the wall? That might be one way to do it.
2) If it's a newer place, you might be able to call the builder. Some builders use the same brand of paint in all their homes/condos when painting them. You might want to call and see.
3) If you cannot find out who the builder was...ask the people at the paint stores. They may know and probably get customers in all of the time asking the same question. They might know where the paint comes from as well (where builders go). Most builders use the same stuff.
4) Ask those new next door neighbors of yours. You can "kill two birds with one stone". You can introduce yourself and ask about the paint. They might know and/or have some of the paint left. Make sure you offer them some of your home brew too!
Those are my recommendations.
Speaking of which...if you do go "kill two birds with one stone", come out here and bring a ton of stones. I've got several birds that I'd like to see gone!

take a sample it is the best way. We did that once and it was a perfect match. It was cool because they wrote the formulation on the can so if we needed more we could just give the numbers
We did that at a F&H paint store.
