Well, not an official race per se, but it's the only thing I have to report on.

I'm in the National Guard and took my PT test on Saturday. Ran two miles in 15:12. I don't have the splits on me but it was fairly consistent; first quarter mile was fast, the next 6 quarters were pretty even and the last one was about 10 secs or so faster than the middle ones.

The time isn't really exceptional, but I couldn't have been happier. Here's why:

1) In October of 2002 I weighed 210 lbs, today I weigh 170 lbs.
2) In October of 2002 I couldn't run two miles straight without stopping.
3) I have been fighting illness and sinus infections for the last month and this run was the first time I'd put on my running shoes in 4 weeks.
4) The fastest time I've ever had on a PT run was around 14:45 and that was about 16 years ago.

Right before I got sick I was doing about 18 miles per week, most of it 3.2 or 4.6 mile runs, usually at about an 8:08 pace or so. I'm ecstatic to have been able to run a faster pace than that even after taking off for so long. Plus my health is back and I'm completely pumped about getting back into running regularly.

I don't have any races planned yet this year, but hopefully I'll still be able to get a couple 5 and 10k's in. I was hoping to get a half in but I think at this point I need to concentrate on staying healthy and getting steady miles under my belt.

P.S. OOOh I almost forgot to add, this was the first time I'd ever run on a track that had the rubberized surface. OMG that was great!!! It was like running on carpet!! Definitely helped my time, I'm sure.
