Poll Not Poll: I'm doing laundry... wondering if I'm typical...
1. Who does the laundry in your house? (Who sorts? Who washes? Who folds?)
2. Do you pretreat? Do others in your house right away do it if they know something is stained?
3. Do you wash in different temperatures?
4. How often do you bleach whites?
5. Liquid softener or sheets for the dryer?
6. What age did you start to do laundry?
7. Do you hang clothes up instead of using a dryer (sometimes?)? If so, do you hang things up inside and/or outside?
8. Liquid or powdered detergent?

My answers...
1. Who does the laundry in your house? (Who sorts?Me, Who washes? Me,Who folds?Kids and I )
2. Do you pretreat? Do others in your house right away do it if they know something is stained? I go in phases, recently trying a new pretreat spray... kids don't do it
3. Do you wash in different temperatures? I use cold for everything except for towel & sheets - they get warm
4. How often do you bleach whites? depends, every second or third time
5. Liquid softener or sheets for the dryer? liquid in the washer
6. What age did you start to do laundry? 17 yo, in college -- really
7. Do you hang clothes up instead of using a dryer (sometimes?)? If so, do you hang things up inside and/or outside? we have some "no-dryer" clothes that are hung up inside in the basement.. clothes that are delicate, we don't want to shrink, or simply we want to last longer/not fade... an example is soccer socks

I sort and wash, Libby folds and hangs up.

I used to. Now I don't.
3. Do you wash in different temperatures?
Well, I bought that new Tide cold water, and so I use cold for everything but my whites, which get hot.
4. How often do you bleach whites?
Not often, every few washes probably.
5. Liquid softener or sheets for the dryer?
Liquid, all the way.
6. What age did you start to do laundry?
Not until I became an adult. Libby can do it, I just choose not to make her at this point, since she has scads of other chores. Once I'm working full-time though, it will be hers and Will's job.
7. Do you hang clothes up instead of using a dryer (sometimes?)? If so, do you hang things up inside and/or outside?
I hung in Charlotte, but use dryer here.
8. Liquid or powdered detergent?
Liquid. I hate powder.

4. How often do you bleach whites? I do sometimes - usually soak them for several hours - rest of family never. Powder all fabric bleach is used every so often

6. What age did you start to do laundry? When I got to college in 1967 (18 do it or stink)
7. Do you hang clothes up instead of using a dryer (sometimes?)? If so, do you hang things up inside and/or outside? Non dryer stuff hangs up inside - we do have a laundry line but hardly use it

Do others in your house right away do it if they know something is stained? That's a joke, right?
3. Do you wash in different temperatures? Lately I've been washing in cold only to see if it affected my gas bill at all (it doesn't). Delicates in cold, whites in hot, others in warm.
4. How often do you bleach whites? Everytime.
5. Liquid softener or sheets for the dryer? Bounce sheets, original scent.
6. What age did you start to do laundry? I was about 15 at my cousin's house and she refused to do mine for me. My mother refused to let me use her washer.
7. Do you hang clothes up instead of using a dryer (sometimes?)? Yes
If so, do you hang things up inside and/or outside? Inside on the bathroom shower curtain rod.
8. Liquid or powdered detergent? Powdered. It's cheaper and it seems I get more uses out of it. I pour the detergent in the water while it's filling, BEFORE I add the clothes.

These are my answers, and I'm stickin' to them. (Presumption is LC does not see this thread. Surrrrre....)
1. Who does the laundry in your house? (Who sorts? Who washes? Who folds?) LC. I can get the washer going and fold stuff - I stink at sorting.
2. Do you pretreat? Do others in your house right away do it if they know something is stained? Yes to both.
3. Do you wash in different temperatures? Winter, summer, sure. Doesn't matter a bit.
4. How often do you bleach whites? Again, this is LC's field of expertise.
5. Liquid softener or sheets for the dryer? Sheets.
6. What age did you start to do laundry? College.
7. Do you hang clothes up instead of using a dryer (sometimes?)? If so, do you hang things up inside and/or outside?If the stuff shouldn't go in the dryer, it gets hung up. Can't hang it outside - aginst townhouse regs.
8. Liquid or powdered detergent? Liquid.

My Grammy always hung things on the line, then fluffed in the dryer for a few minutes. Worked out very well.

It's only my work clothes that I hang and a few items that I'm afraid would shink. And ALWAYS my jeans!!!
My problem is the wrinkling. I hate that and having to iron them. Usually the iron will take the stiff feeling away. I do less and less of this and have resorted to taking my work clothes to the cleaners. It's one less thing I have to do right now than to worry about being careful with my clothes.

yes....in the summer it's usually hot when I wash, and in the winter, it's usually cold when I wash.....

13...when I started football...ma made me do my own muddy uniforms
