Quote:
Oscar Pistorius, Paralympic gold medal winner and world record holder in the 100m, 200m and 400m, was awarded the Order of Ikhamanga (Bronze) for "inspiring achievements in athletics and contributing to the wellbeing of people with disabilities in Africa".

"This is something different to a sport award ... it comes from your country ... it shows you that you are on the right track," Pistorius said.

Pistorius was born without fibulas in both legs due to a congenital condition. Before his first birthday his legs were amputated below the knee. At school he competed in rugby union and water polo. After a serious knee injury, he was introduced to athletics while undergoing rehabilitation. His first major competition was the 2004 Summer Paralympics in Athens. He came 3rd overall in the T44 100m event, which includes single amputees. Despite falling in the preliminary round for the 200m, he qualified for the final. He went on to win the final with a world record time of 21.97 seconds, beating single amputee American runners Marlon Shirley and Brian Frasure.

Pistorius world record on 400m is 47.34s

Oscar is an incredible young man. He is born in a different mold to anybody, I think, on this earth. His parents bought him up exactly the same as his brother and sister and he eve went to the same school as his brother. It was never considered he should go to a specal school even if he was special case himself. He always and still does want to be treated as normal and goes about his daily life accordingly. I think the amount of bravery and courage and determination that goes into his daily life is remarkable and he doesn't like people feeling sorry for himself.

That award he recieved was received very modestly, but it was well deserved.

Yes he is the fastest man on no legs so it won't surprise me if he does qualify for the 2008 Olympics Games in Beijing.

On a sad note Oscar isn't the worst looking guy on any race track.

Impressive! along the same lines, I was at a parade on saturday and a pipe band marched by. I noticed something unusual about one of the drummers; it turns out that he was a double amputee. His prosthetics were covered with the tradition outfit, and he was marching along and drumming. It made the music (which always gets to me anyway) even more stirring.

Hi

Its incredible the courage these people have is amazing.

I have clips on my real player of Oscar and his races. The one that amazes me most was the 400 meter race he ran and won last month at the Paralympic World Championships in Assen Holland. I think the inly way to judge how fast he really is is to be there live and gasp and marvel at the sight and speed of this incredible young man. Any award received by him is well deserved I think just for the work he has out in to his training and racing and the courage, bravery, determination and grit that goes into his racing and his life. My admiration and respect goes out to 'The fastest man on no legs' Oscar Pistorius.
