Read Press Release here:

an excerpt:

Quote:
It is just great that Kraft has now announced in response to the lawsuit that it is “actively exploring ways to reduce trans fats in Oreo.” Kraft is accepting that there is a problem that must be solved. Good. Hopefully, we will see a trans fat-free version of the Oreo soon, so that those of us who love Oreos (I really do) don’t have to eat unsafe trans fats to enjoy them. We have that right, don’t we? Kraft should give us all a choice.

It now is up to each food manufacturer to decide how to respond to the new public awareness of the existence and danger of trans fats. Let’s hope that they respond responsibly.

No money was ever requested in the lawsuit. There is no greed factor. No one has made a penny out of it. And it did not cost one penny of taxpayers' money.

Incidentally, I am generally against lawsuits against food manufacturers, and I am certainly against the MacDonald’s case which I think is totally ridiculous. I've said that over and over again this week. Everyone knows that fast food is unhealthy and they have to be responsible for their own actions.

I know it isn't a popular opinion around here (and me being part of the right wing consiracy, no less!) But I like this guy, I can't help it.

This is to the lawyer filing the suit:
If you want an Oreo without Transfat---become a food scientist and R&D one into existence, don't make Kraft do it.

Ohh by the way make sure you know that it you will be sued because someone will mostly suredly eat one of these 1 day shelflife Oreos and get sick. Unless you make a warning label longer than the bill of rights.

And Oreo cookies are what?

No offense to you Monk, but this guy's a moron. If you don't want the trans-fats, Stephen, don't buy or eat the cookies.

And to what BamBam said.

None taken, but you missed his point entirely. What he was trying to convey by the lawsuit was that the public (and he is right about this) are not aware of the dangers posed by one ingredient. Trans fats are dangerous, and people should be made aware of that fact. His suit had nothing to do with sugar or the fact that they have lots of calories and no nutrition whatsoever, just that one ingredient has potential dangers for people in any amount. The FDA gives a 0% of daily allowance for trans fats!

Look, I am no nutritional elitist, believe me. I love Oreo cookies (by the sleeve no less) as much as the next guy. And I am about as right wing as they come, so I am no consiracy theorist. But why would the food companies want to hide the fact that foods have trans-fats from their labels? Most people wouldn't care, anyway.

Look, we had a thread about the obese recently, but other big problems in this country include diabetes, high cholesterol and the like. If one ingredient seems to exasperate these things, don't you think we should be made aware of it? It is kind of like the warning on cigarette packs, now they seem almost funny, but what about in the 40's and 50's, before the dangers of smoking were really well known, would it have been funny then?

All I am saying is that his lawsuit was well thought out. His whole idea was to garner as much attention about trans-fats as he could, at no cost to anyone (the suit was never even served to Nabisco!)

Look, we are all talking about it!

Aren't those 'Newman-Os' or whatever Paul Newman calls his version of oreos free of trans fats? Can't this "don't partially hydrogenate me" guy eat those and leave us with our oreos in moderation of course in peace?

He is! All he was ever doing was raising people's awareness. It was really a brilliant plan.

If Nabisco can find a way to make Oreos taste the same as they do now without trans fats, would that be a good thing? Confused:
