Nordictrack 5500R

I ran on that treadmill for a little bit yesterday and liked it. Anybody got any informed opinions on the Reflex Deck?

I've got a history of running injuries and I'd like to think that running on that kinda springy thing would help get rid of some of those, but I'm a little worried that it may just create new ones.

it's just an opinion, but the deck seems too artificial to me. where else do you run and get such a "propelling" action. i'm betting it feels real good and it is probably quieter than normal, but then hitting the streets after training on that might be where the injury occurs. is that the ony deck they have now?

No, they had models with decks that were firmer but still adjustable (firmnesswise). I don't plan on giving up my road training all together, just cutting back on some of it and hoping to give my knees and feet a break by running on a softer surface part of the time.

For the same price, I would definetly do this one. It has a longer deck and a better motor. It probably isn't quite as soft as the other one, but it will still be a lot softer than the road.

I too lust after this model. Confused

I tend to think this should help with your injuries giving your legs a rest from the constant pounding on outside surfaces. You will need to still train outside but incorporating a softer surface for at least some of your runs should help you avoid most, if not all the injuries that are directly related to the harder outside surfaces.

It looks pretty decent. If I had somewhere to put a treadmill I would strongly consider it.

Mildly curious - The 7500 is only $100.00 more. Why do you not prefer it?

Do you think the deck on the Nordictrack one is long enough? Just curious if it's got enough space?

I always be partial to NordicTrack.. MN originated company Wink

I've seen the ads for the Springflex and Reflexdeck and have got to believe that's the future of treadmill technology. Yes, there's an argument for needs to "pound the pavement" on occasion to keep the o' joints used to it. I forget which running guru talked about it in a recent article, but their recommends was 50/50 soft surface versus normal roads.

When you look at elites and what many of them do, it seems almost totally to be all those monster mileage types run on trails..woodchip, grass, dirt..whatever it takes to keep life in their legs. Those soft surfaces are the lifeline of piling up the miles. I remember reading about Frank Shorter and a soft dirt loop he would run ovah and ovah and ovah in Gainsville. And you gotta believe Olympic gold speaks for itself. I'm all for softer surfaces and if it was my bucks, I'd go for something exactly like you're lookin' at thumbs up

The model I looked at at the store was only $1440. But if it's only $100 to upgrade to a 3 HP motor, then I'm spending an extra hundred.

dunno I didn't have any problems staying on the 55" belt and I kicked the pace up to 6:40 for a while. I would have turned it way up, but I was in jeans.

Now I remember why I didn't like the one with a 60" deck, it was too springy. Much more so than a 55" deck.
