a fifth grade girl in one of my classes lost her mother early this morning, to cancer. she's a beautiful girl, a lot of fun, and just yesterday she agreed to help me with the chorus concert next week, eventhough she's not in chorus. I was shocked because I didn't know her mom was sick.

I lost my mom to ALS at that age...

I was a bit messed up from it. The worst part was seeing my dad suffer with the loss. Sad

It was odd having my teachers and classmates telling me how sorry they were...you just do not understand all that too well at that age...the concept of death and loss is not well formed.

Sorry for her loss....

well, let's say she is a student on the edge. she didn't have a bad home life, but the situation doesn't sound real good either. I don't know if her bio dad is in the picture at all, and this is a step-dad situation.

Even if it was a real dad situation, the terminal illness probably took a huge toll on that family way before now. I can't imagine what this child is going through. I truly pray that God give her the strength to make it through today, and then tomorrow, and then each day, individually, after that.
