OK let's forget the nuns. The absolute bestest thing about parochial schools (for a parent) is UNIFORMS !!!
No looking for new clothes every year. No having to mix and match stuff. Just go to the recommended army navy store and get the required jumpers, pants and shirts or skirts. No muss no fuss.
For high school my kids wore:
Son: Grey Dickies pants and white polo shirts with school logo
Daughter: Grey skirt, and white polo shirt.
School logo sweaters were available for the winter.
Let's face it its sooo much easier this way.

They tried using uniforms for public schools here in Jacksonville but the demand from the parents for it died after 2 years.

I think the uniform idea is awesome! Too bad none of the schools my son has ever been to has had them.

there area lot of good reasons to require uniforms. I wish more public schools would do that. I see about a thousand students each week. Many of them are poor and cannot dress well. Uniforms would hide their poverty to some extent. I also see a lot of clothing that is in poor taste, questionable decency, etc. It would also get rid of the t-shirts with the "clever" sayings, not to mention that it would eliminate some of the fashion show competition.

t-shirt (ie, nike or adidias or something sports related)
blue jeans
pair of nikes
