I am one who is not quite used to be receiving any charity at all. I am basically a do it yourself, work hard and Mr. Self sufficent type guy.

This past week was truly humbling for me.

When we got to the retreat house, there was a pair of retired ladies who actually waited an extra 15 minutes because we got stuck in traffic because of a bad crash 2 miles from the house. The ladies took our picture and had a huge basket as a welcome present. In the basket was a quilt, some towels for the kids, some shirts, cups, water pistols, coffee, beach toys and lots of other little things.
We were greeted very warmly and treated extremely nice. They were thrilled when Abby allowed both of them to hold her.

THe next day we had to plan our itenerary for the week. Lots of the attractions around provided the Children's house with free passes for just about anything we wanted to do. I figured they would provide the house and we would have to make our own arrangements.
Not only were they free but all of our reservations were made. Shocked

The businesses we went to were extremely accomodating and rolled out the red carpet for us.

A group of Kiwanas had a lot of their members give free fishing and boat rides to the families as well.

Our fishing trip was canceled because of the weather but our boat ride was given by the president of the Kiwanas and his wife. They gave us a great tour of the Ocean City MD area and again treated Abby like she was the queen.

I was truly impressed with the commitment that Believe in Tomorrow has and see why they are doing so well as an organization. They have a strong leadership and excellent support staff who are very committed to the people they serve.

I was truly humbled. It was a great experience for everyone even though it was such a rotten week (which was out of there control)

I've only read enough to know that your Abby is not in optimum health... for this I am very sad. I feel badly too for when I'm talking about how my kids drive me bonkers too, when I should just be thanking my lucky stars that they're all healthy.

I'm so glad that there are programs out there to help those in situations such as yours. I donate to March of Dimes, but probably not enough to put a dent in their situation. We give to the United Way, and donate anything and everything we can to the Salvation Army and Goodwill. I'm sure what we do isn't enough, but I like to think we're helping someone, somewhere.

We lost two babies to miscarriage, but I'm thankful that we have the three healthy ones. YOUR post is humbling to me. Too often I know I take for granted just how blessed I am.

Blessings to you and your family,
Brie

That's what charity is about Joe. For all the challenges you have with Abby, the sleepless nights, the emergency hospital trips and scary times, it's some consolation there's a place to give you a boost and chance to recharge. Definite thumbsup to Believe in Tomorrow and Kiwanis (speaking a Kiwanian myself Very Happy ) for helping kids that truly need it. Your pics and memories are wonderful, thanks for sharing.

I too am really impressed with them and am putting them on my regular donor list after the thank you letter the President sent out after we donated for that race you ran for Abby. This is a class organization for sure!!

Nice post! I hope you realize that most likely Abby gave them more than they've given you, and that's a lot!!! Just from her pictures I can tell her smile lights up a room.

Joe, I am glad I've donated to this organization, and will do so again. I like to help people out but I'm very skeptical of alot of organizations. I want to know my money is helping someone in need out, and not lining the pocketbook of some rich ba**ard.
