Posted: 08/12/03 - 10:45 Post subject: On Summer Vacation I...
...went to Washington, DC!
No beach as I had tentatively planned because it predicted to be a stinking rainy week up and down the east coast all of last week.
It was my first time there. It reminded me that I'm an urban girl at heart. I really enjoyed my time there. Went for 3 days. Flew in, took the metro everywhere, walked way to much for the kids, flew out.
We went to the National Zoo. Saw the pandas and oh my, the organtans climb up these huge towers and climb on ropes right over the public areas!! Curiously my favorite stop was the Invertebrate Building. Very interesting.
Tried to hit a couple of monuments but the kids were unimpressed especially in light of the walking involved to get there. We just made it to the Washington Monument.
Went to the Museum of Natural History. So much to see. Only hit the Fossils & Dinosaur areas and the Gems & Mineral areas. Again, way cool for me and the kids.
Went to the Air and Space Museum. It was okay. Perhaps you need to be a buff to really appreciate all the cool stuff there. I was impressed most by seeing the Amelia Earhart plane and related items. Kids were tired so didn't appreciate this stop a lot.
We went to Kennywood amusement park too. The girls and I went on every roller coaster at least once. And OH... the Pit Fall. Fun stuff.
