I love/could watch probably all the events. I really dislike the touchy feely stories that take away from coverage of the events. Maybe a little info/backstory on the athletes is okay, but a whole saga with dramatic music/photos and Bob Costas voice-over is overkill. Show me the competitors competing.

[hijack]who watched the US Olympic diving trials this weekend? friggin awesome[/hijack]

You won't see the stuff I like - the 3000m steeplechase, the marathon (in full), and boxing (well, that you'll get some).

I don't want to see any sport with the words "synchronized" or "rhythmic" in them.

What sport could I cover.... volleyball most likely.

Likes: running. All of it. If it has someone going around a track as fast as they can for as long as it takes, i'm watching it. I prefer the middle distances (1500, 5000).

Likes: Marion Jones. I am going to be so pissed if it turns out she is juicing. So pissed. I remember watching her 4 years ago and there was a certain amount of joy involved. She had such a smile and a prescence that i loved watching her run. She's so smooth and so fast and the image of her winning races by such a large margin: Stunning. I want that joy back and i don't want it taken from me.

Likes: Rowing. I'll just sit and watch rowing for hours. I don't understand the sport (much like diving), but i'll watch it.

Dislikes: Equestrian. Okay, i'll watch this one, too, but since i understand it less than diving, i'd rather have some boxing or more running on tv.

Dislikes: Field events. I love Track, but not Field. I honestly don't care about how far someone can toss a bowling ball or can throw a really heavy frisbee, and i'm not interested too much in how someone can throw one of those wobbly spears.

Dislikes: Basketball. Seriously. I haven't cared since Larry Bird was in the Olympics.

Dislikes: Opening/Closing Ceremonies. I don't like parades and it's just teasing me by saying "hey look, i'm the Olympics but you're not going to watch any events today."

Synchronized diving is pretty cool....

I don't like the basketball or boxing. And am I dreaming or did ballroom dancing make it in? If it did, add that to my list of dislikes.

Amen to that one cool thing about Canada is CBC shows all the events without that crap. Nothing ticks me off more than to wait 3 frigging hrs to see my favorite event...................................and most of it was the touchy feely segments on how they got there and heaven forbid you sneeze...and miss the whole event.

I think you skipped a couple: swimming and diving to name a few...did you know mountain biking is now a category?

Must see TV Event(s):
800m
Shot Put
Discus
(they never seem to have TV coverage of the last 2 though, just a highlight of the winning throw )

I think I could cover the SP & Discus.
Especially seeing as they only show the highlights. Mr. Green

MUST SEE: I hope to catch some of the swimming and definately the diving. I could do the commentary on the diving because of my history.

DISLIKES: commercials waste my time

[continued hijack]I missed the trials this weekend but read in Sunday's paper that my summer coach's daughter placed 8th. She's a freshman too![/hijack]

As long as it does not involve someone in a spandex body suit spinning a ribbon I will probably watch it. I find the sappy human interest angles a bit much but they do give a good background on the person and the adversities they overcame.

They never do talk about the "Olympic Medalist Factories" some of these kids are put through.

Oh well, good luck to all competitors !!!

[hijack]My fear of heights prevented me from diving but I am obsessed with it for some reason. [further hijack]I was watching it with my 3 y/o niece. She asked me why the boys were wearing panties.[/all the hijacking]

Does anyone remember a few Olympics ago when they had 3 channels (the Red, White, and Blue or Gold, Silver and Bronze or something) you could subscribe to and see basically non-stop coverage? It was like Direct Ticket Olympics (made up name) but it was something you could get through cable. 1992 maybe? We didn't get it then but I kind of wish they offered it now...Tivo plus that--brilliant!

i don't really much care for the summer olympics... i dunno, it all seems so american to me. there aren't many canadian athletes that i follow.

i prefer the winter olys.

now, unless some of my friends crack the team (and they might) i won't be tuning in. unless i'm there in person i don't much care for the olympics. too much hype. i'd rather watch a triathalon on the OLN, or the Tour de France.

i used to love watching the dream team (92 oly style) but that was it. or i'll watch to see if canada makes another run...

i do actually find some of the gymnastic stuff interesting... like the uneven bars, and the rope things they hang from (lol can't remember what it's called)... but it's weird seeing them throw themselves around and i think that's some pure athleticism there. so that's kinda interesting...

in the meantime i say ho hum and patiently awaiting downhill skiing, luge, bobsled, speed skating, hockey, snowboarding, that skiing shooting one, and all that fun stuff. i don't think there's a winter olympic sport i won't watch... except maybe figure skating. but usually it's not too bad.

I'm an Olympic spectator whore: I want to watch ALL events, big and small. I think it is such a thrill and it has always impressed me these atheletes from all over the world converge into one city and compete in their event. I mean, it's incredible if you really consider how amazingly talanted these people are. Even table tennis leaves me awestruck. How on earth can the hit that tiny little ball with such accuracy, such speed, such...seriousness.

I love all of them! Especially the diving and the running events. I could watch the olympics all day and night. I even caught the Trails for the syncronized diving this weekend. We're in trouble folks. I can't see how we're gonna bring home a medal in this event. I'd even put money on it.
