Word of warning: Decongestants dry out your mouth as well as your sinuses.

I ran this race 2 years ago as my first race in 15 or more years. I was fighting a cold and had some sinus problems, so I was just going to run whatever pace felt right for the day.

Mile 1: 7:11 Had to fight through people and I was surprised that this mile was so fast

Mile 2: 6:43 Downhill part of course and I was finally out of the crowds. But, this is where I realized what decongetstants do to your mouth. SERIOUS cotton mouth

Mile 3: 7:18 Uphill part of course

Mile 4: 7:16 Still slight uphill. I started to fell tired here, but I realized that I only had 2.2 miles to go. 3 weeks ago I was feeling tired at the MCM with 6.2 miles to go. Hey, 2.2 miles are piece of cake

Mile 5: 7:14 Just trying to coast in

Mile 6: 7:00 This is what I call my kick

Mile .2: 1:17

Chip time 44:05
27/129 for age group
209/1359 overall

PR by 52 seconds and beat my previous course time by 5 minutes.

Great job! Does the 6.2 seem like a joke after the marathon?

Doesn't cotton mouth give you the irits?

What? You didn't win? Wink

Good job, particularly 3 weeks out. Damn, you are fast. Gimme some of those drugs, please.

Yep, I figure if I ever want a chance at an age group award, I have either got to find a really small race or bring a baseball bat with me and start "knocking off" the really fast runners.

So, did you enjoy running right past the Krispy Kreme with the Hot Now sign on?

When I ran past the KK, my only thought was that some guy pushing a jogstroller had better not run through the drive through, buy a dozen doughnuts, eat and hand them out, and still run faster than me. This happened two years ago and my poor ego is still bruised.

I got beat by a guy pushing a stroller last year at Cajun Cup. It's a shot at your dignity, definitely.
