What do po po want us to say when we're pulled over?
Nothing- Let the officer speak first. If you start off with an attitude also, there goes any chance of a break.
What shouldn't we say? (I'm not talking rude or offensive) Quotas-it is annoying and insulting. We do not have quotas they are illegal.
Also-you only stopped me because I am ______-no you were stopped because you broke the law not becaue you were yellow, green or pink.
I hate that more than anything.
Also name dropping like I know so and so, etc. We don't care. If you are important (or think you are) make the phone call to the person you know after the stop and something may be worked out.
What makes a motorist look like a total idiot to you guys?
Yelling and screaming and trying to think they are going to intimidate us out of a ticket or threaten a law suit
Or they think they know more about the law or think that the way stuff happens on TV is how real police work is.
What does the average motorist do that gets under your skin and you wish we'd stop? Most of the above and that we must be wrong. No our speed equipment is ceritifed every 60 days, etc.

Here is what to do when you are pulled over.
Pull of to the side.
Roll your window down and wait for the officer to approach. Have both hands on the steering wheel. (We like to know where you hands are)
Greet officer and let him/her speak.
Be honest if you were speeding. Be honest about why, we do give breaks if you have to go to the bathrooom or something like that.
if you do not know why say I do not know. (he could be stopping you because your tail light is out or something)
Do not make sudden movements. When asked for your license and registration, tell him/her where it is and go get it. For example. I keep my credentials in my inside jacket pocket. I would tell the officer my license and i.d. are in my jacket pocket, I am going to get them okay.
My registration and insurance are in my glove box, I am going to reach over and get them.
Lots of officers are hurt/killed during traffic stops. We are always careful.

Are traffic violations a revenue generator? I'm guessing that they're not.

we only make 12.50 on each stop
We get half of the fine and the state gets the other half
on a 25 dollar ticket court costs and other fees make up the other 75 dollars.
We make more money on parking tickets/parking meters.
The money just goes into the township general fund. There is no benefit or detraction for making more or less.

what if i'm being followed by an unmarked car with a flashing light--i'm not pulling over.
isn't there a number (other than 911) to call to make sure that flashing light didn't come from K-mart and joe perv is at the wheel impersonating a PoPo.
paranoia runs deep in the over 40 crowd.

If you are close to a fire or police station, drive to there. Otherwise wait until a marked card come into the picture then pull over. Always pull off in a public area. If the officer is in plain clothes, ask for ID, and/or request a uniformed officer.

The power of a cell phone, no?
Let me dig that up, RR. There is a number you call from your cell to check. Something like 789#. I'll get back to you (unless, you know, Joe?)

yes that is correct. We don't make commission. That would be illegal.
