 Some things never change.
You know, I really love my job. Or I guess more accurately, I should say, I love the day to day functions of my job that allow me to touch people's lives and make some sort of difference. What I am growing to hate more and more this week is the rest of this cesspool of stupidity and rancid incompetence that they call a company that I am working for.  I can't even begin to express how furious I am at these people right now. It's not my department, we seem to be the only ones capable of doing our jobs, doing them correctly, and not pissing off half the community in the process. It's everyone else that I am supposed to be discharging my kids to when their contract is up that is dropping the ball, and creating some really unpleasant and embarrassing circumstances for my team in the process. Even my boss sees it, which is sad. He can only agree with me so much but he does, and it's completely frustrating to not be able to do anything about it.
I said to him today, you know that "great career at our company" you keep saying I can have if I want it? I DON'T. NOT AT ALL. I wouldn't take a management position in this place if you paid me six figures (which of course is unlikely anyway, it's mental health  ). Someone apparently pissed in the gene pool here and the higher up you go, the worse it is. No thank you. I'll stay in the trenches and just work with the clients, where I KNOW I can make a difference.

Thanks RP...yet another reason why you're my newest hero!!  
Basically what happened is this: I had a kid scheduled to discharge today to a mobile therapist, part of the wraparound program. A lesser level of care than my program, because he's made good progress, despite having to be hospitalized a month ago. I was told by their supervisor, we have someone for him, they will start after 8/28. OK, fine, we meet with her, pass off the case, give her the particulars....this kid's complicated and so is his family. YESTERDAY I find out the MT is NOT going to take the case and the only other qualified one is booked too. So now he has no aftercare. UNACCEPTABLE. I am not dropping this kid on his azz with no therapy til you idiots find someone. So I call the clinical director and tell him I'll keep the kid and do the 2 hours MT a week til they find someone. He says OK, my boss says OK, and the wrap supervisor says OK. I'm all set to call the family once we get the clinical manager's OK. Which we DON'T get....AND the mother has in the meantime called today to find out why no one called her to set up an appointment for next week and is told by our receptionist that there are no MTs available right now! Mom goes ballistic and calls clinical manager. They call me on a conference call and tell me they are putting him into outpatient until they get an MT.
THIS KID CAN'T SIT STILL FOR 5 MINUTES, let alone 50. He's not APPROPRIATE for outpatient, or don't you morons think I would have DONE that already?????????????? This level of care is not appropriate for him, he's not going to get anything out of it and they don't care because on paper, he's getting aftercare treatment. I just called my boss and yelled at him for the last half hour about this, and, patient soul that he is, he let me rant and rave and agreed with a lot of what I said about the gross level of incompetence that this agency has going on. Unfortunately, there's nothing we can do about this and I'm still furious. This is the last time wrap is getting ANY referrals from me, I'll go outside the agency if I have to before I go through this again. And I have a kid leaving the end of next month who's a wrap candidate and I'm already  about how that is going to get f-ed up. If I hadn't nagged her about this every day for the whole week, he'd be on his azz right now getting NOTHING and being waitlisted. I shouldn't have to do everyone in the damn place's job for them, but if it means getting care for my kids, then I guess I do it. and that's what I told my boss. He told me "this is why I need you here in our program, because you're one of the few people who WILL do this....." That made me feel good but I'm still PISSED.
I'll take that chocolate spa treatment now please....

Genie so sorry for the kid and i know how you feel about how the organization is F'ed up. hell i think the whole field of medicine is F'ed up now-a-days because it's a buisness now and all a bunch od friggin numbers and a decimal point.
