Hi everyone,

I was wondering if this thing that happens to me was a common thing, I don't know if this is going to sound strange or not.

When I go for a run or have a workout and am breathing hard, my nostrils seem to appear bigger, as if to take in more air or something. I don't know if this is due to heat, or some sort of automatic muscle reaction.
I am one of those people who have the ability to flare out their nostrils. They also flare when I yawn, which is something I can't control.

So essentially, my question is it normal for the muscles of the nose to cause the nostrils to slightly widen to allow more air in after a good workout/run? Or would this be a unique trait?

Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question, just curious as to whether this is normal or a unique thing.

I can flare my nostrils too. I have never noticed if they are flared while running, but my guess is that they are. I think I do flare my nostrils when I first start running and haven't started breathing through my mouth, but I am primarily a mouth breather so I doubt they stay flared.
