Posted: 06/13/03 - 08:53 Post subject: North Georgia possible Meet - Run the Reagan
Who is interested in doing the Run the Reagan?
It's got a 5K, 10K and a half marathon. For those not familiar with it, they close down Ronald Reagan Parkway for 24 hrs. and let the runners race on it. The half marathon is from the east end to the west end and back. 5K and 10K are also out and back runs. Rolling hills, same stuff you'll find all over metro Atlanta.
It's on 10-11-03 (Saturday). Link to register on Active http://www.active.com/event_detail.cfm?event_id=1047956
All you non-GA peeps are invited too. pokychick

dunno about G-man. EJ lives in Suwanee right? If he does, he's not far from this race at all.

Yes, he's moving shortly but he'll likely stay in the area since he runs with the Atlanta Track Club. I'll put a bug in his ear about it....I'm not sure if I'll be able to run but I may come down anyway if you are definitely doing it.

Sorry guys, but I won't be there. I'd like to do it, but Reagan always seems to fall on a weekend I'm out of town.
I'll be running a 5K at my college homecoming up in the mountains of Tennessee that weekend.
BTW Poky, if you like the Oktoberfest Run, you'll love the Sewanee Homecoming 5K - you can drink beer before, during and after the race if you like.

Posted: 10/06/03 - 18:11 Post subject: Run the Reagan half
I'm running the Reagan half using my HRM, while preparing for the Chickamauga Battlefield Marathon on November 8. I'm going to keep my pace at no more than 75% of my maximum HR to try and have a fairly evenly controlled event. I have a big problem shooting out way too fast even though I always line up in the back 3/4 of a race pack.

Late registration is a little steep on this race. It would be supah cool to meet you at this race too though.

Backroad Directions to the race start since Ronald Reagan Parkway is closed for the race.
- Exit I-85 and turn onto Pleasant Hill Rd going away from Gwinnett Place Mall
- Follow Pleasant Hill Rd and it will cross Hwy 29 and becomes a residential road (now called Lester Rd.)
- Keep following Lester Rd. until you come to a T in the roadway and take a left onto River Rd.
- Follow River Road until it crosses Five Forks/Trickum Rd and becomes Dogwood Rd.
- Follow Dogwood until you come to Hwy. 124 and turn left towards the hospital.
Once you see the hospital (it's the only building in Snellville with more than 2 stories), you'll be able to see the starting line of the Run the Reagan. Plenty of parking.
I'll post my bib number on Friday evening.

My bib number for the half marathon is 1190. Looks like we get a little wet tomorrow. Good luck to everyone.
Years ago when Snellville was much smaller they used to use the slogan, "Snellville, where everyone is someone". I haven't heard that phrase in awhile, now.
