Fish Day, Port Washington WI
In the three years I've been running, I've done two races all three years - this is one of them. Additionally, this is the one of two races LC has run every year.
Normally, I do the 8K here. But as I'm going to be up for an 18-mile run at six tomorrow morning, I opted for the 2K race. The 2 has more the feel of a fun run, though the top male and female do receive awards. This is the course that's got the bad hill after about the first 1/4 - the rise goes for about 3/8 mile. But as they like to say, what goes up must come down. And in the second mile, it does drop (as the splits will show) from about 1 1/4 to 1 3/4, with a sprint down the parade route to the finish. A nice touch - people lining the streets in chairs, on the curb, so the runners have an audience (the 8K also finishes down this street).
While it's no more than a quarter-mile from Lake Michigan, there was no breeze or lake effect today. Temperature of 74-77 with moderate to high humidity.
Results - LC did better than she thought she would. Time :22:27.06. She figured her splits to be 11:58 (that hill, and the starting crowd) and 10:29.
Yours truly - :16:50.95. Splits of 9:12.10 and 7:38.85. 43rd out of 138 overall.
We stuck around for the parade, an art show, and the Fish Day festivities, and gave ourselves nice sunburns. But you can't beat the fish and chips.

Nice! I can't even find my pace in 2k. I would suck at racing it.
