Posted: 07/08/05 - 17:18 Post subject: Newbie Training For Half-Marathon
Hello! New to this forum and wanted to introduce myself. About three weeks ago I began to seriously train for Disney's Half-Marathon that takes place early January.
Training has been quite an experience so far... I've gone through 3 sneakers because of cramping in my arches until I found help from a man who owns a shoestore and has many marathons under his belt. He said he had never seen feet like mine; one foot is normal, the other supinates and has a lower arch. He helped me pick out a pair of Brooks to which I've worn for a week on my run/walks and while I do not cramp in my arches, there is some cramping around the edges... but overall a definite improvement.
Like another newbie posted, I too feel awkard when I run. Not only because of the cramps but because I just feel weird - legs feel like logs too. I guess feeling like a natural will come in time.
Anyway, that's where I am today. See you around the forum!

have you considered orthotics? I would think if one foot is actually anatomically so different that orthotics might be need. Is your walking gait different?

The man at the shoestore said that he is almost sure I would need orthotics one day. He offered to put me in contact with someone he knows but I being a fulltime college student who works parttime, I do not have insurance. So, that will have to wait.
He watched me walk around his store and looked at my feet... so I am not sure if my walking gait is different than my running.
