I just got out of a meeting where the plural possessive "y'all's" was used at least 5 times. I wouldn't have noticed it had this not come up in this thread. teehee

ps, the picture I copied was very tiny, I don't know why it shows up so big here....

y'all's -- the possessive one -- was just such a different "way" for me when i lived in NC. y'all was one thing, but y'all's just used to really nail it down for me. oh my gosh, i'm an alien.

that picture is so huge LOL LOL

meeting transcript:
"we can do it yall's way, that makes sense"
"well yall's way is fine too, it just might be easier to do it our way"
"will it interfere with yall's work to try the new way?"

Yall's makes me cringe a little only becuase it is so incorrect. At least when I say yall I'm running together two real words that work in that order in a sentence. However "all" shouldn't have a possessive, and just plain ole "your" doesn't always cover it, feels too singular. Sometimes its already halfway out of my mouth before I realize I'm saying it and I just go with it. It also often times follows "all" ie Pick up all yall's trash.

On a road trip a few years ago, my wife and I stopped in Nashville to grab some lunch. Our waiter said y'all so much I couldn't stop laughing when he spoke to us.

Same road trip, we stopped at a Best Western in a small town in West Virginia and the desk clerk couldn't understand a word I was saying (and I had to spell Toronto for her). I turned to my wife and said, "We're aliens in a strange land."

Don't ever try to explain that you are from Louisville to anyone outside of Kentucky, at least as a native Louisvillian who pronounces the word with about 1.5 syllables and a lot of "uhl" sounds Embarassed

Very Happy

In fairness, I think people from Minnesota actually say "eh" more than Canadians. (At least the ones I've met)
