I just ordered some Brooks Chariots from RRS. I am still casting about for a good inexpensive shoe. If they don't work out, I suppose I will go back to the Mizunos (Mercury, Alchemy, or Legend). |
Do you order from RRS very often? Anyone else? Are you happy with them? I've thought about it several times, just don't feel like paying the shipping costs and if I really want a new shoe, I would like to try them on first. |
I have ordered from RRS and I have been pretty happy, what I usually do is wait until they have some kind of discount or free shipping deal. Lately I have been buying shoes at race expos (hint bring cash) and buying 1 or 2 pair. I also order from National Running Center they are comparable to RRS in price and shipping.

I did the opposite... I was a dilweed and bought some Asics, most I've ever spent on shoes, and I totally hated them. I believe they caused me some problems with strained calf muscles. Now back to the Nikes, my times are getting back down to the pre-Asics days and my legs are very happy.

I have. I prefer to try them on first, as it seems to me that there are idiosyncrasies between different pairs of shoes in the same model. I personally think you're better off going to the local running store.
I am also guessing your wife does not run (nothing wrong with that, but it explains why she wants you to wait). There is definitely nothing wrong with a little cost/benefit analysis regarding old shoes = expensive, possibly debilitating injuries vs. new shoes = initial expense but long term expense due to injuries.
I have had more than a few injuries trying to budget expenses/not buying new shoes whe needed and ended up laying out much more total than I would had I just got the new shoes.

Around 300 miles I start breaking in new running shoes and used the old ones for middle distance miles and long runs, while the new shoes are short distances and interverals.
I support my loca running mecca all the time, but they don't carry enought triathlon related apperal and then order by mail on those.

Another newbie to the site here, but I've been running for awhile.
The only shoes I buy anymore are Asics, and I can generally get about 500 to 600 miles on a pair. My legs tell me when they are getting near the end of their use ... tightness, etc. Then I change them out.
Regarding RRS, I only buy apparel from the site. I have found with shoes, especially Asics, that sizes are really inconsistent between different pairs. If a pair ordered from RRS doesn't fit quite right, it's a total hassle having to return them. So I prefer to support the local running store.
Just wanted to add my 2-cents to the discussion.

Thanks for your thoughts, folks. I lucked out, and Tracy allowed me to get another pair of shoes. It helped that Batjac had a 50% deal at our local store and I was able to find my same shoes - 2001 model Response. I was so happy. I tried the newest response, and they were totally different, and totally uncomfortable. I probably won't be able to find the 2001's again next year, but I've got awhile to worry about it!

Get my sneaks real cheap via the podiatrist. I have three pairs I rotate. I don't go more than 350-400 miles on any one pair.
