Hello everyone,
I'm new to this site. I've spent the better part of 2 days reading everyone's contributions from the inception. Scary stuff.
Brief history on me: 56 years old; symptoms began 1996; have been treated by all sorts of crazy doctors before I got my PS diagnosis toward the end of last year - my favorite was the doctor who convinced me to throw away all my regular shoes and buy only butt-ugly orthopedic shoes. Can't even believe I fell for that one but, as I'm sure you've all done, I was grasping at straws trying to get some relief. Cost me a fortune to re-buy all my regular shoes.
The only thing that has given me moments of relief in the past 11 years has been the frequent use of a TENS unit. It doesn't cure anything (obviously) but it allows me to sit through a movie, or in a car for more than 20 minutes. I fly quite a bit so it's been a lifesaver on planes! I've even had to sleep with the darn thing on many occasions when the pain was bad. Has anyone else used a TENS unit for relief?
You all seem to have Dr. Filler in common. The doctor who diagnosed me is at UCSF - Dr. Layzer. The surgeon I'll be meeting with next week is Dr. Barbaro. Last year there was a contributor to this forum (PDH) who has disappeared from the site. Has anyone heard from this person? He/She had the surgery using the doctor I'm going to be using. I understand Dr. Barbaro's techniques are a little different from Dr. Filler's. Can anyone give me any input on this?
Also, is there anyone who can tell me what the CT Code is that was used for the surgery? I want to contact my insurance and ask them if it's a covered proceedure.
I have to say that I was initially encouraged by David and others who had the surgery but as the weeks went on and I read things that were shared, now I'm scared as hell! Sure wish we could hear from the others who dropped out early to find out how they're doing.
Thanks for listening.
Margie
