Posted: 11/24/03 - 13:19 Post subject: NYRR Race To Deliver 4 mile
It was a really nice day for a run: 50 degrees, partly sunny, slight breeze. I think I overdressed a little, though. I was wearing tights, a long sleeve shirt & a fleece vest, which would have been okay for a relaxed run, but not necessarily for a race. I forgot to take off my glasses before the start too, so I had to stuff it in my sports bra (REALLY uncomfortable). Still, I'm pretty happy with my time, considering I was bobbing & weaving in the beginning because people didn't line up correctly. There were people walking that lined up in the 7 min/mile section, people running with their dogs, etc. I made up some time in the second mile, though, because it was mostly downhill. Third mile was killer, since it was mostly uphill. There was really no excuse for slowing down so much in the 4th mile, since it was a pretty even mix of downhill and uphill. I didn't have a strong kick, which I think cost me a good 8 seconds. Oh, well. I'm a race closer to automatic qualification for NYCM 2004 (3 more to go).
Split 1 1 Mile 8:05 8:05 slow start, people lined up in the wrong place
Split 2 1 Mile 7:17 7:17 mostly downhills, made up some time
Split 3 1 Mile 7:37 7:37 mostly uphills, lost some time
Split 4 1 Mile 7:39 7:39 mix of uphills & downhills, but started to tire a little, very little kick if any.

I had no idea you were so fast! Nice time. If that's the same course as the Snowflake 4M from February, it's a tough one. Good job!
Just three more ... cheering for you!

Wow, you are fast! Sorry that I didn't make it (family scheduling conflict).
See you at the next one!

BTW, I was looking for the nasty hot chocolate, since the NYRR site mentioned that there would be some available after the race (you piqued my interest, Elkid) but didn't find any. I guess it was too warm yet for hot cocoa.
I figure, I tried the clam strips at White Castle, NYRR hot chocolate couldn't be that bad.
