My vacation to Detroit. (long)

This past week we drove to Detroit to visit my Grandpa. We started out on Monday morning and arrived at about 6PM that evening. Here's a pic of me and Grandpa.

Everytime a picture was taken I had to keep thinking: "No Muppet face! No Muppet face!!" LOL

Anyway on Tuesday My Aunt and Uncle, Grandpa, Me, husband and kid went to the Henry Ford Museum. That was an awesome place! It's huge and has a little bit of everything. We got to see the car that John F. Kennedy was shot in, and the bus Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat in. There were also some old trains, and lots of inventions that never really took off. After that we went to Greenfield Village which was right next door. Here you could see the house Henry Ford grew up in along with the houses of other famous people like Thomas Edison, and the Wright Bros. After all that we drove over to Canada to have a nice dinner.
I was disappointed to find that Canadians really do NOT have flapping heads like they depict on South Park. Surprised

On Thursday we went to a little German town called Frankenmuth for a huge dinner and shopping. Pretty neat little place. I splurged and bought me a letter opener.

It was really great spending a few days with Grandpa and my Aunt and Uncle, but we had to leave on friday so we could stop over in Springfield IL to visit my SIL.

The day started off really bad when we got lost in Detroit. I had directions off of mapquest but one of the exits we were supposed to take was closed. Mad

So here we were lost, in rush-hour traffic, in the pouring rain. Keith was like:

and Nichole slept thru the entire thing. LOL

I never needed a beer before 7 o'clock in the morning as bad as I did on Friday. Finally after driving around aimlessly we seen a cop pulled off the side of the road watching traffic. We pull in behind him to ask for assistance. Keith had to knock on the window to wake him up. He was sleeping!! Shocked

On the side of the road in rush hour traffic!! It didn't appear he was really happy to have been awakened either, but he did point us in the right direction, and we were on our way finally.

Got to Springfield in the afternoon sometime. I'd rather stick forks in my eyeballs than visit my SIL. Her husband is a nice enough fellow, but he talks incessantly. The man never runs out of things to say. I don't even go out of my way to look interested but apparently muppet face says:" Tell me more!!"

Don't even get him started on his college football steroid pumping days, he'll tell you all about it. For hours, and hours, and hours. Picture Chris Farley doing an imitation of Hulk Hogan: " I used to weigh 350 pounds!! And my chest was a million inches wide!! ARRRRG!! And I did steriods! Lots of them!! ARRRG!!" During this entire rant I was thinking: "shut up shut up shut up shut up shut up". Then after that didn't work I tried screaming shut up as loud as I could in my mind hoping he'd get some kind of telepathic hint. He didn't, and I literally fell asleep while he talked. Am I good company, or WHAT??

Anyway a trip to SIL's is never complete without a chore of some sort, so we couldn't leave on Saturday until Keith rewired their entire house for cable. Confused

Last time we went Keith had to make christmas tree stands for 12 hours and I got stuck watching the screaming children for 15 minutes that stretched into 3 hours. The time before that they asked if we could visit, we said ok, and they said:"That's great, because we're moving!!" SIL is turning 40 next month and wants us to visit her for her birthday party. I made the mistake of asking Nichole about her birthday in a few weeks and SIL want's us to have her party in Springfield too.
