Ever since I started to run longer races I have noticed that my toenails have turned black. Not all of them of course. It is getting worse and I am afraid that my toenails will fall off. My brother says that it is normal for long distance runners and that I should get used to it. What do you think?

It is NOT normal and whoever tells you that is wrong. I have been running for some 10 years which include 10k’s, half and full marathon and I have never lost a single toenail or had a black one. The key is appropriate running shoe. Choose your shoes wisely. Talk to the people who don’t have such problems. See their shoes. Then check with the good shop assistant who knows a lot about running shoes. You will get a good advice as to what kind of shoes to buy.
