Posted: 03/03/06 - 18:20 Post subject: My sister gives runners...
...a bad name.
She was on the track/cross country team in high school and so we were having this running conversation on email today. She said that running hurts her knees so she doesn't do it anymore. I told her she needed to get a good pair of running shoes (because I KNOW she has never owned any!), she should get a gait analysis done, etc. Then her knees wouldn't hurt her as much. She keeps insisting that running will probably still hurt her knees so she isn't going to pick it up again.
FINALLY, after about 10 emails back & forth (no, we don't know what IM's are!) she admits that it really has nothing to do with her knees...she just doesn't like to run.
I'm like - DON'T BLAME IT ON YOUR KNEES!!!!!

That was kinda my point. All these non-runners saying they don't run because "it's bad on their knees" yet the real reason is because they just don't want to run!

my sis says she "doesn't know how"
i guess what bugs me the most is that she was very athletic as a kid.
well, now that she has a baby it'll be "i can't find the time"

too cold, too hot, not enough time, most of the time it is simply a priority.
I do know an ex-runner that has to use an elliptical trainer. A Doc says he could fix his knees but doesn't want to go under the knife.

Yes, but mostly from bad shoes (and a bad gait analysis).
