Posted: 05/05/04 - 13:48 Post subject: My response to a stupid insurance company form
background, When Abby fell down the steps and broke her leg, it was a legitmate accident. The insurance company picked up on the word "accident" and thus wants us to fill out Abby's workman's comp and auto insurance information. I was so angry after reading it because the bill has not been paid that I sent this short note. I wanted to say a lot more, but the person who would read it should not be the brunt of my anger. So I got my shot in and let it go at that.

I understand that this form was probably generated by a computer and that through no fault of your own do not even look at the age of the person, in this case, Abigail Oaster. Abigail is only 3.5 years old and the nature of the “accident” was a fall down the steps. Therefore you will see an uncompleted form.
It is forms like this that waste mine and your time. Because if I don’t fill this form out, you will not pay the claim and then the Hospital will start going after me. I wish there was some way forms like this could be evaluated prior to being sent out.
Thank you for you time.

Your insurance co and my dentist. They call today and leave a message, saying "Yes Mary, we're calling to set up your appointments..." Ok, she's a minor first, so it's not her phone. Leave a message for her mother. Second, the girl goes by Libby, and I have to tell them this every single time we go in. WTF? Make a note already. Oh wait, I already did, on her file. I guess her nickname though isn't on whatever printout they have, so perhaps that isn't their fault but it really chaps my a$$ in any case. Our fault for giving her the name Mary and then not using it I suppose.
Oh, and you know, the insurance co tried to deny Jacob's circumcision. They thought he was a girl. Yes, I realize that his name is so common for girls these days.
Your note was very nice, incidentally.

This is not quite the insurance story but it does show how burocracy can go wild...
If you are collecting disability payments from the VA, every so often you have to be evaluated by the VA to insure you still have the disability and are still entiled to the money.
A work aquaintace once told me about a friend of his who lost a leg in Korea. Well, he was getting VA disability sooooo you guessed it ! Every few years he had to go to the VA and prove his leg had not grown back.

I've been periodically getting AARP stuff since i was in college (one actually mailed to me in college). I didn't have anything on my medical record.
Granted, my father was nearing retirement age and has the same name (but different middle initial), but we were in different states and have different social security #'s.
