Nichole and I went for a bike ride around the neighborhood yesterday. We live in a fairly large neighborhood so I kept to the places less traveled since she's new at bike riding. Head down this little cul-de-sac area and there playing out in the street is about a 3yr old boy, naked as a jay bird!

Then his dad starts yelling (from the window of the house no less) Hey boy! Where's your clothes at?!

Am I just getting weird as I get older, or is it normal for people to let small children play in the street unattended? Nichole is almost 8 and I won't let her even touch the street without me looking. dunno

Doubt if you're getting weird, so many people just don't give a rats ass what their kids are up to these days.

No you are not weird. Kim is almost 7 and I do not let her outside unless I am there with her.

I don't let my kids play in the street (in our trailer park) until they are one year old, and they can't play naked in the street past three years of age. Does that sound reasonable?

But I reserve the right to yell out the window of my double-wide (wearing my wifebeater, of course) indefinitely. Wink

Hoy crap, dude!!! You mean you used to live around the corner from me and I never knew it!!!???

(Granted I am not a parent; but I don't think it's a real bright idea to let kids outside naked. Too many freaks. With that in mind, I can remember having to chase my sister down when I was watching her because she had a habit of running outside wearing nothing but a hat and carrying a purse.....I am NOT making that one up...Oh my god, I think I just realized that we were hoodlums too.... Embarassed )

ONe of the kids that lives across the street from us used to sneak out of the house and run around naked. Entertaining stuff to see the neighbor's kid streaking through your yard.

Kristin you weren't a hoodlum! At least you were chasing and attempting to stop her! I know kids do silly things sometimes, but this guy didn't seem real concerned about it. And I wonder how long that kid was out there.

I was like that with child #1. More laid back now but very aware of what's going on in the neighborhood.

Right from the start I encouraged the neighborhood kids to come play in our yard (even the hoodlum's kids). That way I can keep an eye on them all. Honesty, I think it's important for those kids with parents that don't parent to have guidance about right/wrong, acceptable behavoir/unacceptable. Hate the now cliche, but in a sense it does take a village to raise a child today. I appreciate caring parenting to my kids from the other parents in the neighborhood... such as sending them home if they deserve it, and then letting me know what happened without making it a big deal.

If the kid is out unattended and naked outside I wonder what goes on inside.

Hey! I resemble that remark!

Once. ONLY once I caught Colin standing on the back of our couch (which was against a huge window) when he was like three and he was buck naked for the whole neighborhood to see. Who knows what they thought of me as a mudder that day!
