Posted: 04/02/04 - 10:58 Post subject: My lawn service rocks!!
I know, it's very frivilous, but I cannot think of a better way to spend $60 that will make life so much easier. I mowed the lawn last year on my own, and it was ok. However, my summer semester is going to be quite heavy with Legal Research and I will be spending a fair amount of time at the library, so having the lawn service gives me one less thing to worry about, one less thing that I have to fit into what will be a hectic schedule.
They came yesterday for the first time, and got our 1/3 acre mowed, trimmed, and blew all the clippings away in less than 30 minutes. It takes me 3 hours to mow, and I have to charge the weed wacker twice to do all of the trimming if I want to do it right.
The question now is, do I tell hubby about the service? He said twice last night that the yard looked great. I just agreed.

Ha! That's funny stuff that you haven't told him. I personally like cutting grass, so I'd never pay anyone to do it for me. I'm working on getting a weed-eater; currently I've got tall weeds along the fence.

In a few more years, those kidlets will replace the lawn service. I think I had each of mine start at 11 y.o.
In hindsight, it's easier to just mow it all myself than it is to light a fire under my kid's butts and get them out there to mow. but that's not the point is it?

It's not that I don't like to cut it. Ok, I don't, but until now I never thought I'd pay someone to do it for me. Problem is, Libby is old enough to mow now, but she cannot mow when I'm not home, and if I'm going to be spending a couple days per week doing my research, then the other few days actually writing, I just don't feel like we'll have time to keep on top of the grass. There were weeks last year where I really needed to mow several times in that one week. I'd rather the yard not look like a Prarie Reclamation Project.
I have a black & decker weed wacker, grass hog I think it is. I love it, but I wish I'd had the kahonas to buy a gas powered one. I hate having to recharge it after only getting half the yard trimmed.
I'm keeper of the checkbook, so hubby doesn't have to know about this, and I don't think he'd honestly mind it too much; he won't care how the yard gets done, just that it does get done. But, he will invariably be off one day when they come, so I probably ought to mention it beforehand.
