I walked into my school a 4th grade teacher. Due to numbers, I walked out of school today a 5th grade teacher.
I'm happy and will teach any of the upper grades. I kinda, sorta knew it might happen (35 5th graders/class & 20 4th graders), but my head is spinning. I had to say goodbye to all the cute new kids who were in tears today and this blew me away. Monday we'll put a 5th grade class together for me.
New curriculum.
Older kids.
Wow!
I'm drained!

It's ok for me. I had been approached last spring and told that I might be needed in the 5th grade this year due to numbers. It was a matter of seeing what the enrollment was the first days of school. My boss pushed for another new teacher and couldn't get it approved.
I enjoy the older kids. I've taught 6th grade before and have no problems with it. It's just hard doing this on the third day of school. The change was done today before everyone started getting into the curriculum.

Hell no!!!
I would have killed my boss on the spot.
Ironically, it took me a week to move out the other teacher's things. They were ALL 5th GRADE THINGS!!! 
I could have stayed in my classroom too. I was moved out of my classroom due to my boss wanting that hallway to be a 5th GRADE HALLWAY!!
I do like my new room and I have it set just that way I want it. But...this has been one PITA!!!

If she could survive a DMB concert, going from teaching 4th to teaching 5th will be nothing.

What's crazy is that next year I probably won't be needed in the 5th grade due to the low numbers in 4th now. Guess where I'll end up teaching again.
I could be going back and forth for a few years between grade levels. It all has to do with enrollment numbers.
