..which means I get the VHS tapes that they have repurchased:
New Years Eve I got:
Free Willy
Toy Story
The Bridges of Madison County
Gung Ho ( you'd have to know my friends)
Beauty and the Beast
As Good as It Gets ( you make me wanna be a better man!)
Ahhh...movie fest NYD whilst cooking up some beef stew.

"People that talk in metaphors outta shampoo my crotch."
(and Gung Ho rules!)
Even though we have a DVD player, we don't use it that much. I'm still in VHS mode...

Please feel free to contribute your unwanted VHS movies to the Mary Poppins video library.

DVD recorders rock.......... a slight investment but the rewards in saving space make up for it.

Our VCR player died and we got a combo VCR/DVD. I guess it's good in that if the video you really want to see comes only on DVD, you can still rent it. I don't find the picture so much clearer (like a visual from albums to CDs), and frankly I barely have time to watch the movie itself so all that other stuff I can see on a DVD isn't a huge plus.
Why do people change over their collections to DVDs? Is it really just about the space?

If your kid watches The Lion King over and over and over again...the tape will wear out. DVD won't, barring scratching the disc. Plus, if you invest in better equipment, the picture will be much clearer. Most DVDs come in widescreen only, which is (typically) the Original Aspect Ratio of the film. Plus, DVD allows for special features, be it a commentary track where the director talks about the making of the movie and specific scenes, or deleted scenes and bloopers, or various documentaries. I love DVD.

In my case yes.
My place is really small and to keep the clutter to a workable level, after getting the DVD recorder, I spent time changing all my VHS to DVD.

1 word :: Subtitles
I love being able to read what they're saying when I'm on the trainer or treadmill and can't understand them over the peripheral noise.
