Ok, so it appears I am a Knob, because I Know Nothing Of B.....anything about distance running much less posting about it. Apparently THIS is a race report Embarassed Please excuse the newbie ... she be sloooooooooow...in more than one area. Anyway....

The day was beautiful, cool and slightly overcast. Got up way early. I ate a banana and a few cuppa joe (full strength!), and some water. Must have been excited because I had to #2 THREE times before the race Shocked TMI???
Got to the starting line and was amazed at the amount of people. WoW. I was pumped and just wanted to get moving. When the Marathon people took off it was way neat Mr. Green

When our turn came up, the starter was trying to be funny...he was not. He said something to the effect of 'oh, there was a misprint and the race doesn't start for another 1/2 hour'.... I did not find it humorous.

So we all start 'running' after the gun goes off, and the sound is just unbelievable! All the feet slapping the ground SO KEWAL! Awsome! Felt GREAT...had a nice hill at first, going DOWN...LOVED it Mr. Green
Got to 1K and there was the water, I didn't really want any, but took one anyway....being completely inexperienced, but warned by Jacked!, in drinking from a CUP on the run, I did inhale a bit Embarassed , the rest pretty much ended up running down my chin Neutral

After the water station I was side by side with Kelly, note: Kelly is 11 years my JUNIOR....for the record.... Confused We'd been running together for about a week, training for this race. Still doing fairly well, feel I'm going a bit fast due to the fact I could barely breathe I had turned my music on shortly after takeoff, but don't remember hearing any of it. Shocked

So we're cruising along on a bike path and I'm thinking, wow, I'm running a 5K in Madison. I have in-laws here and they don't even know I'm here...wondering if it is a good thing or not! Next thing I know we're by the lake...the smell of lakewater/deadfish made me a bit nauseous. Then I noticed the 'breeze'...I swore it was gale force, but those at the end of the race swore it was a 'breeze' Meanwhile I'm running up these inclines that connect the footbridges to the path, and I'm remembering what the guy that gave me my goodie bag the day before had told me about the course being flat........his definition of flat and mine are two completely different things...just sayin I believe that when the freakin wind started is when Kelly got away from me.

So, I guess I settled in, at what I felt to be about a 12.0 pace and just tried to ride it out. I had no clue as to how far I had come as there were no markers or signs that I could tell anyway. I had people around me, but I knew noone. I just keep telling myself "Well, you can still make one goal....DON'T STOP I truely believed it was the only thing I had left...of course, I set my goals pretty high that morning (my original goal(s) were to 1 - not stop and 2 - do it in 44.59) By race morning, I wanted to 1- not stop 2 - do it in 33 min with 3 - an 11.0 pace.

At one point along the route, I noticed I had my hands on my hips while running, which is my 'start to stop' posture Sad . I really had to struggle not to stop. I just told myself slow way down and breathe...you do not have to stop if you go slow...so I slowed way down, and fretted about my time. Evil or Very Mad

Next thing I know, I'm going into the tunnel that goes under the road and I'm feeling like I'm going into a big stadium for the big finish...but there was no stadium on the other side and I actually saw some green bibs going the other way on the other side of the cones and I'm thinking WTF? cry How far do we got to go yet? Oh my god, I can't make it, oh my god, did my watch stop?, what is going on?

Then my little guardian angel came up on my tail pink love I would not have made it to the end without her. I'm not sure she knows she saved my a$$, but she did...and I thank her so very much fubby

She clued me in on the green bibs...just show offs 'going back' Evil or Very Mad , and that it truely was almost over (thank you God!). There's the finish, you can do it, keep it up, not far now. Cindy thank you...I love you!

So we're in the home stretch, me and Cindy. And from somewhere, I have NO idea where (must be the sprinter inbreeding dunno ), I start to try to sprint and I'm thinking, I.CAN'T.BREATHE! WHAT THE HE!! ARE YOU TRYING TO DO? YOU STARTED THIS TOO FAR BACK! YOU GONNA DIE DUMBA$$!

But I didn't, and I actually passed some chick at the line Surprised

Got my chip off, and sat my butt down, and Really REALLY wanted to puke .

When asked if I ever wanted to do it again, I immediately said, and I quote: "I NEVER have to do this again." Then, by the end of the day, and all the after race festivities, I'm thinking....how can I not?! I think I may have a 10K in here somewhere! LOL

So I ended up with a chip time of 35.07 Mr. Green a pace of 11.18 Mr. Green and most important...I didn't stop thumbs up

Deb...thanks. I love ya.
